Matt was trying his best to go see his parents with his sister but Eli wasn't letting him. He sat cross legged on the couch in front of Eli, who was crouched down on the floor so they were at eye level. "We're going to go to the car, alright?" Matt shook his head and looked away from Eli once Riley came around the corner.
"Can you help Nona with taking them to the car?" Riley asked, but it was more like a weak order. She knew it would take a miracle to get them to the hospital on time but she tried her best not to give up on the little hope of saving them. Eli nodded softly before patting Matt on the shoulder gently and carefully standing. "They're sitting up now but," Riley lowered her voice once Eli got closer, "they aren't waking up." Eli clenched his jaw and nodded before walking away from her and to the parents.
"Can you help me with him?" Nona asked as she lifted up the man's legs. Eli quickly made his way toward the man's other side and grabbed him by his armpits. He hoisted him up slowly before following Nona's steps as she lead them both to the back door. They would've went through the front if it was safe from Matt's eyes. "Be careful." Eli nodded as she opened the door and led him outside where the air bit at his skin. It wasn't the warmest day but it wasn't the worst. "We'll put them in the back." Eli nodded as she opened the back door of the car and sat the man up in the chair. Eli gulped as he looked at him with his bloodied side.
"We should cover that up," Eli muttered as he followed Nona back into the house to get the woman. "He's losing a lot of blood." Nona didn't speak until they were back in the hall, lifting up the woman.
"I don't think they'll make it, Eli," she said in a quiet voice as they made their way back to the car. "We are a few miles away from a hospital."
"Then what happens with Riley and Matt?" Eli asked as he helped Nona put the body beside the man's in the back seats of the car.
"I need you to stay with them," she said sternly as she closed the back door as quiet as she could. "Lock the doors and make sure no one can enter the house." Her voice got quieter so Eli could just barely hear her. "You'll be okay. Plus, you can call me if anything happens. I'll call the police once I get into town." Eli nodded before he hugged his Nona and watched her get into the car before driving off. He gulped before he ran back into the house, feeling each muscle burn everytime his legs hit the ground. He shut the door loudly before bolting it shut.
"She's taking them to the hospital," Eli said as he walked toward the front door and locked it. Riley stood from the couch and walked over to him.
"What happens if Alison comes back?" Riley clenched her jaw after, hating the name she had to say out loud. She still wasn't ready to admit to what had happened and she was terrified of even talking about it. It was as if she thought that if she ever uttered the girl's name, Alison would appear out of nowhere and try to kill her. Riley moved her shoulders but her biceps screamed from the fresh burns on them. Whenever she moved, she'd feel pain somewhere.
"If she does, we'll be safe." Riley nodded slowly before she watched Eli walk to chair and picked it up. "We'll put these chairs by the doors so that she can't get in if she passes the lock." Riley nodded as she watched him set up the chair under the knob of the door.
"Will it work?" Riley asked as she watched him.
"I hope so," he looked at her. "I've only seen people in movies do this." Riley grinned nervously before turning around to see her brother lying on the couch sleepily. "He must be tired," Eli said softly as he walked away from the door.
"Yeah," Riley said back as she grabbed a blanket from the chair beside the couch and carefully covered her brother with it. "He was falling asleep while I was on the phone with you." She peeled her eyes away from her brother and looked at Eli, who was already facing her.
"Everything's going to be okay, you know that right?" Riley took a breath before she shrugged.
Because in reality, she wasn't sure what was about to happen. Alison was capable of a lot of things, and that was what Eli was about to learn.
