*about a month later*
"Oh this is just perfect" I muttered to myself as the raindrops started pouring down harder. It was still a good 10 minutes walk away from home and this rain wasn't going to make it any easier, but it was a good thing I was wearing sneakers, atleast my feet won't get all wet and dirty. It was almost midnight as I walked my way home, completely losing track of time at the library. Ughh...college projects. Although it wasn't the first time I'd walked home at this hour, yet the streets of London never failed to scare me, I just wanted to get home as soon as possible but I heard ruffled voices that made me walk much more cautiously. The voices grew louder as I advanced and soon I realized that it was someone having an argument. I hid behind a wall and pressed my ear against it, trying to listen to what they were saying. I know what you're thinking, that I should have just walked past them, minding my own business. But you see, that wasn't a clever thing to do. They were in an open alley and if I had walked or even ran past them they would have surely seen me...and I would have ended up hurt or bruised, or probably even dead. I calmed myself down as rain started coming down much harder and faster, soaking my jeans and sweat-shirt. The voices were much clearer now.
"I said today! That means today! No more shitty excuses man. You've been messing around too long" I heard a rough voice yell, clearly, he was irritated. This was soon followed by a thumping sound and a groan. I covered my mouth to keep myself from screaming or crying. He hit him! The man hit someone.
"I said I'll bloody give you your money in a few days! I'm a little short on the amount you asshole!" another voice screamed, I'm guessing it's the guy who was hurt.
"Ofcourse you will pretty boy and I'm married to Megan Fox" he let out an evil laugh which soon stopped "Finish him off Tommy" and just as he said that some guy started to beat him up. I stood there, mortified, as I heard groans and screams. Soon, tears mixed with rain drops and started rolling down my cheeks but I made no effort to stop them. He was still beating him up. The guy made no sound now but I could still hear the sounds that his foot made as they collided with his body. OH GOD PLEASE save him! Please let him be alive!
"That's enough Tommy, our work here is done" I ran a bit down the street and hid behind a dumpster as I watched two men exit the alley and make their way in the opposite direction down the street. It was impossible to see their faces with the rain pouring down hard. As soon as they were out of sight, I ran towards the alley with only one thought in mind...please be alive....please be alive...please be alive.
I cautiously made my way towards the curled up figure infront of me, my body shaking. He was a man who was curled up in a ball, his arms wrapped around his stomach and head bent downwards. He lay there so still that I was afraid he was....
"Unggghhhh..." he groaned. HE GROANED. OH MY GOD HE'S ALIVE. I immediately bent down on my knees next to him and gently touched his knee, causing another groan to escape his lips and for him to lift his head and roll over, arms clutching his stomach.
"It's okay...it's okay...I'm here to help you, it's going to be okay. I promise" I bent over him, examining his face under the dim street light. The pouring rain made his hair stick to his face. Calming myself down, I carefully brushed away the hair from his face and I felt my heart-beat stop as soon as I did, but there was no mistaking what I saw.
"Harry..." my voice was a shaky whisper but he didn't hear me. He screamed again in pain, clutching his stomach, bringing me back to my senses. Tears started running down my cheeks again as I examined the bruises on his face. There was a cut on his lower lip and it was swollen by now. Bruises covered his face and he was bleeding underneathe the eye with small cuts on his forehead. I brushed all of his hair back with both my hands as my eyes trailed down to his neck, which was swollen too.
"Harry it's going to be okay. Everything's going to be fine. Please open your eyes Harry...please open your eyes...please Harry!" I couldn't keep my voice from shaking as I cried. With shaking hands, I dialled in the emergency number and explained the location to them. "The ambulance will be here any minute, please open your eyes Harry...please" I cried as I watched him groan in pain and shoot his head backwards, making me wish I was dead before I heard him cry in pain like this. "I'm right here baby, I'm right here...just stay with me okay...keep breathing...just stay with me" I softly spoke as I stroked his hair, afraid that I'd cause him pain if I touched any other part of him. His breathing finally steadied a bit and he took long steady breaths which made me relax a bit. "Good baby...yes..that's good" I was having an over-flow of emotions. As if God had answered my prayers, Harry slowly opened his eyes...beautiful green orbs finding mine. The corners of his lips turned up and all I could do was stare at him with my mouth open and eyes puffy.
"You called me baby" he managed to choke out the words and despite the situation, I couldn't help but smile, liquid continually pouring down my face. I took his hand in mine, bringing it upto my cheek.
"I'll make the pain go away, I promise" he looked into my eyes for a few seconds before closing them again.
"Khadija.." he sighed and that's when I heard an ambulance stop near us and paramedics run towards us with a stretcher.
"Right here!" I called to them, tightly holding Harry's hand in mine.
