"Dan?", my mum repeated. "Is that really you?" It was quite shocking how surprised and disbelieved she was. She didn't dare to go one step closer. "Yes, it's me mum" was all I could say. "I'm your son, Daniel." My voice ws shaking but I tried to hide it as good as possible.

My mum's face had changed completely in the past years. Her hair contained several white streaks, even though she wasn't that old, if I wasn't mistaken she was about fifty-three years old now but she looked older. She was much thinner than she used to be before I got sent into the clinic and she looked quite distressed. What happened to her during my absence? There were thousands of questions in my mind but I wasn't sure what to say to a mum who you haven't seen for years. She was kinda like a stranger for me and maybe she felt the same way now. "What are you doing here?" she asked, breaking the silence now. "I was allowed out of the clinic a few days ago" I replied. "And now I just wanted to visit Gemma". I swallowed, trying to get prepared for any reaction. Her answer was nothing more than a whisper. "You dare coming back here after such a long time? What's the purpose?" I felt myself clenching my fists to calm down. "The purpose is to find back to a normal life and become the person I used to be."

Now my mom walked towards me and stared right square in my eyes. I knew I had inherited my eyes from her. They were of the same pale blue colour. "I don't think you can make it" she said. "Why do you think so?" I asked. "Don't forget I'm still your son." This conversation was leading to something I actually really didn't want to happen. "You were my son before you got completely mental after your sister's death."

"What about dad?" I asked, trying to change the topic. "Where is he?"- " He is at home", my mum answered. "But don't think he would want to see you. None of us wants you back in the family because you're just not the son you used to be". – " And you're not the parents you used to be!" I screamed, now no longer able to control my emotions. "Dad and you, you used to be so protective, you truly loved my sisters and me, we used to be such a happy family! Why can't we try to be a happy family again, no matter if Gemma is missing or not? She would not want our family to split apart. Think about it". I didn't wait for her answer, I took one last look at Gemmas grave before I ran away, back into the city. I sat down at a cafe, ordered a cappuccino and dialled Will's number. I desperately needed someone to talk now. " Hey Dan, what's up?", he asked. "Where are you?".- "I'm at a cafe. I went to the graveyard to visit Gemma but..." my voice broke. "But what? Dan, what's wrong?"

"I met mum" I finally answered. Now there was complete silence, I wasn't even sure if Will was still on his phone. "Wait Dan", he said. " I'll be at the cafe as soon as possible. Don't go anywhere." He hung up. I felt my whole body shaking now, I didn't know what to do. After half an hour I saw the familiar car and Will running past me. "Hey Dan", he said. "What's wrong?".

I told him the whole story and he was shaking his head all the time in disbelief. "They don't even know the reason for your behaviour" he stated. "In my opinion, they're desperately in need of help, too, maybe they should come to our hospital." I nodded. "I don't want to lose them, Will", I said. "I know what they have done to me but they are my family and all I want is to get back to the life I've had before because that's what Gemma would want. Nothing else." Will agreed. "I'll try to find out their address so I can have a little chat with them."
