"Come on Jason!" Mom yelled from the kitchen.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," He strolled into the kitchen with a playful smirk on his face, Jayden following behind him.

"Okay, everything you'll need is right here," Mom told us. "See, every year these two make a strawberry cheesecake together. And the twins make banana pudding. It's our tradition," Mom explained to Jayden even though he didn't ask.

Jayden nodded, actually looking kind of interested.

"Yeah, well about that... Do we have to do this, this year?" Jason asked.

Mom put her hand on her hip and gave him a disapproving look, "Yes you do. It's our tradition, Jason."

"I know Ma, but I have to unpack, take a shower, maybe relax a little. I did work and drive all night just to get here to see your beautiful face."

He's such an ass-kisser.

"Jason-"

"And hey, Jay can take my place," He elbowed Jayden's arm.

Jayden's eyes grew wide, "Wait what?"

"Yeah. He can do it," Jason insisted.

From the look on Moms face she seemed to like that idea a lot. A little too much maybe.

So much for family traditions...

"Okay, I don't have a problem with that," Mom smiled and pulled Jayden further into the kitchen by his arm.

She placed him next to me near the island. He looked like he wanted to run, like this was all too much for him. His tan cheeks were turning a soft shade of red and I could tell he was tense.

"Are you sure about this? I don't know the first thing about baking..." Jayden reluctantly asked.

"Aw, you look scared. Are you afraid to bake a simple cheesecake? I thought you weren't afraid of anything?" I challenged him, using his own words against him.

"Your right about one thing, Mouse," He took the spoon out of my hand. "I'm not afraid of anything."

I smirked at him, "So let's see what you got quarterback."

He eyed me, a smirk playing on the corner of his mouth. This thing, that we kept doing lately, lingered for a little too long, and I'm sure my mother and Jason noticed it too.

"Okay then," Mom clapped her hands together to get our attention. We both broke eye contact and a blush crept up my neck. "We'll just leave you to it then."

She smiled awkwardly at me and pushed Jason out of the kitchen, leaving Jayden and I to bake a cheesecake... alone. Something I never thought I'd be doing with him.

I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest. I mean, there goes twelve years of tradition down the drain. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn't want to do this with Jayden. It's just that, this is me and Jason's thing... I really do look forward to doing this with him every year. Especially since he moved out and went away to college. I miss him a lot. I would never admit that to him though... It'll just make his head bigger and the world doesn't need that.

"Let's get to work then," I told Jayden. "Okay, so we have graham cracker crumbs and butter. Melt the butter and then mix them together. Then all you do is mold the crust into the bottom of this pan. Simple enough, right?"
