The silver key

Babysitter

After they tried and possibly failed to explain everything to Erik, he sat twiddling with the key.

"So.... Are you sure that the two of you are not completely delusional?" He asked.

"shut up Erik " Nicole said annoyed.

"Well can we test the theory of this opening anything?"

"Exactly what I was thinking, let's try it out" Leo said looking too excited about all this, it's a geeks dream, after all, for something crazy to happen in real life!

After opening up a few locked cabinets and a bunch of other things like Candace's diary (which Nicole forbid them from reading) they tried the eternally locked closet. It was fairly small and cramped with dust and rubbish all over. The stench was strong and foul that they had to close their noses to keep from gagging.

"I am not going in there!" Nicole said firmly.

"Well I guess that proves the theory" Leo said closing the door and locking it.

"Wait a sec, did you just lock it with the same key?" Erik asked

"Oh, yes I did, guess it locks things too?"Leo said handing the key over to Nicole.

"I think I have the best use for this" Erik said grinning. "Remember I told you about my dad's old house? When I searched there, I didn't exactly search everywhere, the basement and another room were locked and my mom doesn't have the keys "

"How long will it take to get to this house of yours?" Leo asked.

"It'll take about 3 hours by train"

"Okay, then we are going there!"

"Wait, what ? It could be something totally useless!" Nicole said.

"How about we leave next Friday, we can spend the day in the city too!" Leo said completely ignoring Nicole.

"Sure Friday sounds good" Erik replied.

"What!? Friday is not good, we have school don't we?" Nicole asked.

"I'm sure my mom will be fine with us skipping a day of school" Leo said.

"My grandad is too busy with my mom" Erik added.

Nicole stared at the two of them astounded, parents don't let kids skip school whenever they want, grandma would force Nicole to school even if she was horribly sick!

"Fine " Nicole said giving up. "Won't we need someone to babysit Candace though, Clarisse leaves by 3 everyday"

Leo bowed down to Nicole,"your love for my sister as impressed me, I give you the honour of finding a babysitter"

"Don't throw your responsibilities at me!!" Nicole said.

Erik and Leo starting laughing at Nicole much to her frustration.

"What is everyone laughing about?" Candace asked excited.

"Oh it's noth.. Jess? What are you doing here?" Nicole asked.

Jessica completely ingnored Nicole and went straight to Leo "you! How many of your chores have you made me do in the past few days?"

Leo held hands up trying to defend himself against Jessica's rage. Nicole turned to Erik "what is this, 'ignore Nicole day?'" She said irritated.

"I have cake in the kitchen, Jess chill" Leo said.

"You better!" She said and stormed downstairs, dragging Leo along.

"I should get going too"Erik said leaving down the stairs as well.

Candace tugged on Nicole's jeans,"What is it Candace?"

"What's that shiny thing?" Candace asked pointing to the key Nicole was holding.

"Um.. It's a key?"

"Oh! Like the magic key on TV?" Candace's eyes glittered with hope. Nicole felt like melting away in her cuteness.

"Maybe"

"I want it!" Candace asked.

Nicole had dreaded this moment her whole life, the moment were a cute kid asks for something they can't have and begin chaos.

"Sorry Candace, I'll get you another one"

"But I want this one!"

"But the new one will be better"

"I don't want a new one I want this one" Candace asked clearly ready to throw a tantrum.

"The new one will be pink!"Nicole said knowing that she hit a sensitive nerve on Candace.

"Pink!!!???"

"Yes, pink"

"Okay!"

Nicole sighed in relief "let's go down and get some of that cake your brother was talking about"

They went downstairs and found Jessica and Leo in front of the TV with a chocolate cake, atleast..it was chocolate until Candace tried to experiment on it.

"Pleeeeaaasseeee, babysit Candace" Nicole begged Jessica.

"Nicole, I told you I have to take my dog to the vet on Friday and besides I picked her up from school today"

"How about we pay you?" Nicole asked.

"I don't want money Nicole... But I do know someone who does"

"We're leaving" Nicole said to Clarisse before running out of the door. Everything was settled, they were off.

Clarisse and Candace sat in front of the TV waiting for Luciana, it was 4 already and Clarisse was getting impatient.

"Sammy and I are going shopping today, do you want anything?"

Candace instantly got excited,"Get me a key like the one Nicole has!!!!!" She exclaimed.

"Like the one Nicole has?"

"Yup! But I want it in pink!"

"Sure I'll get you one, but how does Nicole's key look?"

"Oh! It's all silver and shiny, with a golden chain and! It even as a mirror!!!" She said jumping around.

Clarisse looked amused and promised Candace that she would get her a pink key.

"Sorry for the delay" said Luciana finally showing up.

"Oh it's alright dear" said Clarisse with her usual smile. " I should get going, call me if you need anything" she said before rushing out.

"It's just us huh?" Luciana said turning to Candace.

After spending a few hours of hide and seek, hangman, and watching Pokémon (the only thing both of them agreed upon) they started to run out of things to do.

"Hey, how about I go and get something to eat?" Luciana suggested.

"Sure"

She went to the fridge and started scavenging, until she heard noises upstairs. Voices? But who was upstairs. Candace was still siting on the couch when Luciana went back, confused she went upstairs with Candace following quietly behind. She saw Candace's door slightly agar and tried to peep in.

*WHAM*

Candace screamed on the top of her lungs as she saw Luciana's limp body fall face first on the floor. The buff tall man with a steel pipe in his hand turned his attention to Candace. Tears poured down her face as she looked horrified and the pool of blood that was slowly forming around Luciana. She turned around and ran, but a strong hand soon gripped hers, pulling her back.
