THREE
It was exactly twenty three seconds past eight thirteen in the morning and Darcy was seated across from Felix at the breakfast table whilst right beside her was Ryan munching away hungrily on his honey-laden pancakes.
Sarah, Aidan and Abby found themselves seated where there were empty spaces and for the most part conversed with one another, leaving Darcy and Felix the only ones who weren't speaking because even Ryan found a way to talk to himself, well mumbling with food in his mouth, counts.
Although sharing shy glances every now and then, Darcy didn't utter a word to Felix, and Felix vice versa. Not sharing a conversation verbally, they managed to work out conversing with their eyes. Well Felix could hardly be heard anyway, above the melee that was Sarah and Abby laughing hysterically at Aidan's jokes and Ryan telling himself about something that was incoherent above the sounds, but clearly amused him to no end. Instead, the two of them were content with enjoying a silent breakfast apart, yet together.
Darcy bit off a chunk of toast and she realized that both Felix and her, shared the same love for slightly burnt toasts with an extra helping of honey on the side. Ever since she was a kid, Darcy had loved honey with toast - just honey and toast. It was one of her favorite comfort foods, a staple for Saturday mornings in front of her favorite cartoons, even after she turned way past the age of eight.
And though not particularly odd, Darcy found it a little comforting to find someone who shared a similar taste as her, literally speaking; especially since she felt all alone in a place like this. Toast and honey, she'll always have that memory ingrained in her mind. And now, she'll have this memory too - toast and honey. And Felix.
Felix seemed transfixed on adding a rather thick layer of honey on his crispy slices of toast - all three of them. And he took his time while at it. "Substituting drugs for honey. Classy" Abby remarked under her breath. It seemed like the only one who heard her was Darcy.
When Felix was finally content with the amount of honey he generously laid on his toasts, he wolfed them down and they were gone within minutes. Darcy watched him lick his lips, and then his fingers which were streaked with honey. Silently she wondered to herself that at the rate Felix downed honey, he must've had a really, really, really big sweet tooth. Or sweet teeth, for that matter.
"You gonna eat that?" Ryan asked, prodding at the untouched toast that sat lonely on the corner of Darcy's platter. As much as she loved honey with her toast, Darcy realized she was stuffed. "Go ahead" she smiled and Ryan wasted no time in piercing his fork through the toast and placing it onto his own plate. Smothering it with Nutella, the toast was gone in the time it took Darcy to blink. Which she did several times, in the light of how quickly the boys consumed their food.
"Here, I'll help you with that" Darcy heard Felix's voice as he took Darcy's empty plate and piled it above his, grabbing empty plates all round the table too. "I'll help you" Darcy offered but he dismissed her with a wave of his hand. "I've got this" he smiled, walking off toward the kitchen. Darcy's gaze followed Felix's back until he disappeared and then she was left staring at a wall so she turned around to face the table again.
Sarah was looking lovingly into Aidan's eyes and they were in the midst of a moment. Clearly they had something going on. Even despite being crowned Resident Weirdos, Darcy found the way they love each other kooky, adorable. Carefree.
They didn't have a care for the world as they sat there gazing past each other eyes, reaching deep within their souls. Darcy found herself missing the way how she used to share such gazes with Jack. He meant a lot to her, even despite the rocky roads leading toward the end of their relationship.
