SIX (Felix's Past)
EIGHT WEEKS EARLIER...
For now, Felix just closed his eyes and he breathed. Long and deep, feeling his pair of lungs expand and deflate deep within his chest every couple of seconds. He stood there transfixed in the moment he was in, as he took in the breathtaking view where the horizon met the very end of the field.
Towards the far distance where the sky and the green finally met, barely touching each other: that was what caught Felix's attention - how seamless it was, as if knitted and woven together into one beautiful work of art. The blue of the sky blending in with the shades of green from the field, it stretched out far beyond Felix could see; let alone comprehend.
It was a beautiful summery evening and the sky poured out like a bucket of blue paint overturned by a cheeky kid, across a large, bare white canvas. Clouds, like wisps of the softest fluffs of cotton candy were being torn off in small chunks and fed generously to the blue sky and the sky, like a little kid, slowly savored the cotton candy clouds for as long as they possibly could. The sun played hide-and-seek behind those white clouds as it streamed an endless beam of warmth that no doubt warmed Felix's heart.
Felix and his mates were to meet up for a game of friendly soccer that day and even the weather seemed to condone their game, for it had been raining helter skelter all month, causing a massive flood that thankfully had receded over the course of a couple of days.
Not a day in that particular month was spared from the onslaught of heavy rain, and yet today not a single raindrop fell over the ground to which their feet are now treading upon. In fact, Felix had missed the sun so much that right now as it shone across the sky, he couldn't help but smile. It was times like these when he felt rooted to the ground, unable to move away from the beauty of what he had so far missed for the past four weeks but now had the privilege again to experience.
Eventually, Felix made his way across the field to where Camden, Luke, Braeden, and a bunch of other guys he knew from school were already gleefully kicking about a soccer ball, as if they weren't a day past being five. It was a rather heartwarming sight to be a participant of: a bunch of guys shouting and laughing as a single ball rolls about the green field, being kicked in every possible direction. Braeden yelled jokingly at one of his teammates, a guy in a green shirt that Felix couldn't quite place the name for.
When Felix stepped onto the field, Braeden ran over and gave him a big, sweaty hug. "Ugh, get off of me!" Felix mocked disgust as he tried to wriggle himself free out of his best friend's tight grasp, laughing while he was at it. Braeden refused to let go of Felix as he too continued laughing, pulling Felix into the game, shouting, "Come on, you're late! Let's go!"
They ran onto the field where throughout the next seventeen minutes, the game became an intense, fast-paced one. The team Felix had been on, was however on the winning end with the score being 5-3, on their favour.
The guys had all taken a breather and returned to the game during the second half. From the corner of his eye, Felix spotted the ball coming his way and so he ran full speed toward it, having not noticed that Camden had done the exact same thing as he did, causing them to collide into each other and they both fell to the ground, Felix unfortunately headfirst.
As Felix lay on the ground, momentarily disoriented, only a split second later, Braeden sent the ball flying in the other direction and it was a nice shot, but during the process, he kicked the back of Felix's head by accident. Felix's world went black.
"Felix! You okay man?!!" Felix heard his mates' voices screaming above him but he couldn't tell which voice belonged to who. It was a jumbled up mess of noises but the splitting headache he felt at that time, drove all the noise out and brought back a distant memory he shared with his brother, Finn.
