The wake was held at Drew’s house in his backyard. Drew lived on the outskirts of town near the train station and had a pretty big house so he was able to fit at least 270 people in at once.

When Ness and I got there we just hung around each other for a bit not saying anything but after about half an hour Ness decided she wanted to go inside so I followed her. She went down to Drew’s basement not even asking if she was allowed down there, I found that really rude but still followed her down. When we got to the bottom of the stairs I realised that she didn’t ask because she knew there were tons of people down here, all from school. In fact they were all in my year and they were drinking and taking drugs.

What the hell? Half these kids I’ve known since I was five and I would never have thought they would ever drink underage or do drugs. They all seem so happy. I wonder if it’s the dugs and alcohol that makes them happy. I grabbed Ness’s shoulder and turned her around. “Is it the drugs and alcohol that makes these guys so happy?” I asked.

Ness looked at me as a big grin formed on her face. “Yes Becca. That’s what makes them so happy. You should try it; it will help you to loosen up a little.

At first I was shocked that Ness would even think about trying it but after a while I figured it couldn’t hurt, my life sucks anyway. So I walked over to a table and picked up a bottle of beer and chugged it down. After that I did another and another and another. It did help. I felt so much better after having those beers.  Everything was better.

I turned around to give Ness a hug and tell her I was sorry but I couldn’t find her so I went looking for her. I walked over to a table in the corner of the room where there were a group of four people sniffing white powder through a straw. I assumed it was drugs.

“Hey have any of you seen Ness?” I asked without thinking.

They all looked at me funny and then the blonde haired guy spoke up “Nah mate but have you tried this? It is the best shit out.”

“Nah I haven’t. Can I?” I asked.

“Sure” The blonde haired guy said pointing at a seat across from him.

…..

Before I knew it I was off my nut. I had so much to drink and sniffed so many things I didn’t even know where I was. I still hadn’t found Ness, not that I had been looking much so I decided to go for a walk. I started to head towards the stairs when everything became dizzy and I started to feel really sick. I looked around for anything to grab onto but there was nothing around me that I could see.

I started to head towards the stairs again knowing that I would be able to hold onto the railing but before I even got two metres closer I fell to the ground.
