I open my eyes slowly. The warm sunlight from outside is streaming in through the window and encasing my body, making me feel fuzzy inside.
I sigh and turn onto my back, staring up blankly at the ceiling. I love these moments in the morning when there's nothing on your mind, just calmness and comfort running through your body.
"Are you awake?" Sara whispers suddenly from beside me.
I glance at her with a smile. "Obviously."
"You look cute when you sleep by the way."
"I thought I told you to stop watching me when I sleep." I brush a piece of hair carefully out of her eyes. Waking up beside her like this every morning makes me honestly so happy.
"I'm your girlfriend, it's what I'm supposed to do." She takes my hand and kisses my fingers softly.
I watch her closely, my hear rate picking up as usual. It doesn't matter what she does, I just fall in love with her all over again.
We'd been close a few years ago at the GPF's in Barcelona, after it had ended we kept in touch, but we were never that close. Then everything happened with Yuri and Otabek, I left Russia and skating to travel, to find myself; then I found myself in Italy. A place I'd always wanted to visit ever since I was young.
I decided it would be a good idea to visit Sara while I was here, and then we became a lot closer. She was the one who persuaded me to go to Otabek and Yuri's wedding after I told her what had happened. Said that I needed to face my fears and not run away from them, she really helped me feel better about myself.
From there I slowly started falling for her, and to my luck she felt the same way too. It was hard at first to get her brother to accept our relationship though, but he eventually succumbed to it, feeling comfortable with the fact that she was dating a girl and not some quote on quote "perverted guy".
We've been together for about three years now, and I don't see myself being with anyone else but her. I decided that going back to Russia would bring back too many bad memories, so I moved in with her here in Italy.
Except, it's been five years since I last saw Yuri; in some weird way, I actually feel bad-
"I can't wait for the day I get to put a ring on your finger." She says then.
I blush. "U-Um, I don't know about that."
"I know, I know, you're still wary after what happened with Otabek, I completely understand. Except, I don't know how much longer I can wait."
"I'm sorry, I-I want to, but I'm just not comfortable right now." I reply distractedly.
"That's what you always say Mila." She gives me a soft kiss on the cheek. "You're lucky I love you so much or I'd be really annoyed by now."
I bite my lip, feeling guilty.
She pokes me in the cheek. "Hey, don't pout, it makes me sad."
"Sorry, sorry, it's just, there's something on my mind."
"What is it?"
"Yuri, I haven't seen him in like five years. I-I feel like I should go visit." I reply.
She grins. "Oh my god, that's great! You're becoming so much more brave Mila, I love it."
"I guess..."
