Episode 0: Inhumane

The man walked down the stairs, his footsteps heavy, his authoritative face set. The ground trembled, the lights flickered, and the guards on either side of him looked around frantically.

Yet he was completely calm, consumed by his own blindness and desire. While the prisoner he sought after was just a kid, he was important to the operation. The kid was a terrific lab rat; smarter than he looked. That is, if the compass hadn't tortured him too much.

The door was ajar due to the panic the traitor had started. Now, there were two he was concerned about.

He smiled without emotion at the sight of the room. The opposing key had worked. It kept the damage of the compass on the one it was supposed to be for. It trapped him.

The kid was curled up in the corner, back against the wall, hands pressed over his ears. His breathing was uneven and sweat soaked his shirt. He let out an inhumane shriek, and slammed his head into the wall.

With his hand held up to stop the guards from coming in, the man approached the boy. He pulled on thick, leather gloves before swiftly wrenching the kid's head up. He ignored the child's screams, scoffing as he pulled off one third of the Antipode. The charcoal compass was placed in its case, but the key didn't make it there.

"Welcome back, Eden," the man said without sympathy.

Eden snapped his head up, panting as if he had just run a marathon. Tears leaked down his cheeks. For the first time, Concord -- the man -- saw him as absolutely terrified; and this satisfied him.

"Save me..," the boy whimpered, obviously not knowing what he was saying.

If Eden had been fully in tune with his senses, he'd be furious with the man. Concord was guilty of many things, and Eden knew this better than most.

Concord sneered, slapping Eden across the face. He cried out as his temple hit the adjacent wall, causing a gash. Concord hoped that his plan would work, even if it seemed insane. However, what was this compared to the other things he'd tried?

"I hope you manage to remember something," Concord hissed.

A tremble rumbled through the foundation of the prison. Concord stood, giving his former partners' child one last look before leaving the room with no regrets weighing on his cold, hard heart.
