I woke up in my bed the next morning, the sun was so bright at first I almost couldn’t open my eyes. Brian must have walked me home because I was out cold. I was in my favourite P.Js. I thought to myself, cool I sleep dress. I got out of bed and went out to the living room with my family.

“Good morning.”

“Good morning sweetie.”

“Mum, how I did get home last night?”

“Brian walked you home.”

“Okay, I thought so.”

“You looked like a tired 4 year old after giving trouble all day.”

“I was that out of it?”

“Yeah, if I didn’t know better I would have thought you were drunk. But you’ve been through a lot these pass couple of days, enough to make even superman tired.”

“True, what’s for breakfast?”

“At least nothing has changed you. I knew that was exactly what you would ask. Just surprised you didn’t ask sooner.”

I followed her to the kitchen and sat at the table.

“So, what did you make?”

She uncovered the breakfast, “French toast, you’re favourite.”

“Yay! You didn’t make it in a while though.”

“Nothing’s wrong with your hands, you could make it too.” She smiled and handed me the maple syrup. “I didn’t forget what you top it with.”

“Thanks.” I smiled back and dug into my toast a la Francais.

After breakfast, I showered and got dressed in some cool clothes. It felt like it was 80 degrees out, I put on some shorts and a vest and put my hair up in a ponytail. I sat around with the summer edition of Stylewise magazine in my hands. It was the first time I saw it though, so I was curious, it had summer toys for the kids to play with outside or at the beach, some clothing for men and women and perfumes with other beauty products and stuff for around the house like furniture and do it yourself tools. It was an interesting little magazine. I saw some clothes in there that I wanted to buy but I hardly go out… I didn’t know what to do next. I had watched all my weekly series. And I was bored. What do I do now?

My mother passed me fanning herself with the newspaper, “It’s so hot and the fans aren’t helping, the windows are opened but no air is flowing.”

“Maybe we need air conditioning.”

“Yeah, I was just about to say that.” She sighed, “But there is so much more I need to do this summer.”

“Let’s rob a bank?”

“Cherise,” she laughed, “you still always say the silliest things. I love you.”

She sat down, hugged me and kissed me on the cheek.

“You’re still my little baby girl. Well… my big baby girl.”

“I love you too mummy.”

“Mummy,” my brother came in, “I want you to help me with this puzzle.”

“Okay, I’m coming.”

If I haven’t mentioned it already, I have a sister named Elise but she doesn’t live with us, she’s twenty-five and she has a beautiful little two year old daughter named Jana. She still comes down here with us, to ask my mum’s advice or annoy her and Jana, she’s a darling but she is mischievous and as curious as a kitten. And my younger brother named Cameron. Cameron and Elise have the same father, his name is Emile.
