I hesitantly rolled out of bed at 5:35 AM in the morning. I turned off the alarm and walked in to the kitchen. Mum already had the kettle to make some tea and was trying to decide between making tuna sandwiches or eggs and hotdogs.
“Morning Mum,” I yawned and stretched, “why does summer fly by so fast every year?”
“Good morning sweetie,” she said all smiley and perky, “time flies fast when you’re having fun. Didn’t expect you to be up already though, I know you were up late chatting with Brian.”
I blushed. “True, but I decided that I might as well get this day started… I mean I got to do it every weekday morning for the next 3 months.”
“Yeah, but it’s your last year of high school,” she pulled on my cheeks, “it’s going to be way more exciting than you think.”
“Yay!” I said uninterestedly, “I’m going to go fix my hair and hit the shower.”
“Don’t be so down Cher, you’ll have Brian dropping you off and picking you up.”
I grinned, “Oh yeah! I forgot about that.”
I turned and ran to my room, flipped on the light switched, sat in front of the mirror and tried to picture a perfect first day do. After about 5 minutes of pondering I decided to braid a section of the front of my hair and pinned it into the side. When I got of the shower I curled the rest of it and let it the curls fall around my shoulders. Super cute! I put my uniform on, fixed my tie, checked to make sure my bag was accurately packed and went out to the kitchen to eat my breakfast. Soon after I was finished Brian honked his horn, I kissed mum on the cheek and I was out through the door.
Brian got out of the truck, took my bag and opened the door for me.
“Hey Cee, are you excited for today?”
“To see you,” I smiled at him, “sure!”
He closed the door and put my bag in the back seat, then got into the driver’s seat.
“I got something for you, it’s not much but school can be well… school, so I thought I’d just get you something so you can think of me when you look at it.”
“You didn’t have to, really – “
“I wanted to though.”
He took my hand and put a silver charm bracelet on my wrist. It had all my favourite animals on it in a cartoony character style, and they were also in my favourite colours which was purple, pink and blue. There was a bunny, a cat, a dog, a dolphin and a little red heart with the engraving Briz and Cee. He was seriously the sweetest guy ever.
“Oh my gosh! This is so thoughtful and cute. I love it!” I hugged him and kissed him, “How did you get the time to get this?”
“I got it made yesterday, spent the whole day by the jeweler to make sure he did it right.”
“It must have cost a lot,” I kissed him again; “this is so sweet, thank you Briz.”
“You’re welcome. I just wanted to give you something for when you miss me you know.”
“Yeah, and I got you something too.”
I pulled a black braided leather bracelet with silver studs out of my pocket and put it on his wrist.
He smiled at me, “I guess we had the same idea.”
“Yeah we did. I saw it yesterday when mum and I went last minute shopping and thought of you.”
“Thanks, I like it. Actually I always wanted one but could never find any I actually liked.”
He kissed me deeply and his watch beeped, it was now 7:45 AM, and we were late.
