Author's Note: Before I start this fanfic, I just want to say that I'm really sorry for not posting for so long. And I'm not just saying that for this story, I'm saying for the rest of my stories as well (i.e. Destiny's Chains, Dream Demon, etc.) I just want everyone reading this to know that I haven't given up on any of my stories. With that being said, see you in the next chapter! (`・ω・')
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .It was the day that my friend, Rin Matsuoka, was swimming in a relay. I was in the stands, supporting him as usual. Rin and I have been friends since we both started fifth grade at Iwatobi. Although that wasn't even a year ago, let alone a few months, I imidietly knew that he would be my closest friend. Sure enough, he and his teammates won the trophy. Overjoyed, I ran to Rin and gave him a big hug.
"That was great!" I squealed. After the celebration was over, Rin looked at me and grabbed my hand.
"There's something I need to tell you." I nodded and we both rushed away to wherever he was taking me. Out of breath, I was heavily panting when we reached our destination.
"Why did you take me to the big cherry blossom tree?" I asked.
"I needed someplace to tell you, so I thought that this would be the best place."
"Ok, so what did you want to tell me?" Rin began to draw pictures in the dirt.
"Well," his face soured with regret, and I already knew that this was not going to be good news, "I'm going away to Australia. I don't know if I'll come back or not." He sighed and took a deep breath. "I was gonna ask if you could come to the airport with me and say goodbye." I stared at the ground, completely speechless. Slowly, tears began pouring out.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry for crying," I put on a fake smile, wiping my eyes, which were filled with overflowing tears. The more I said sorry, the more I sobbed.
"No, I should be saying sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry," Rin placed his hand on my shoulder as a sign of comfort. I cried for about five minutes before he calmed me down with a hug. "Meet me at the ocean tomorrow morning."
"Ok," I wiped my eyes.
"We should get going," Rin extended his hand towards me, and I took it. Tomorrow was not going to be fun.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The next day, I was the first one to wake up. I ran straight to the ocean without saying another word. As the sun waited to rise, I found Rin sitting in the soft sand, watching the waves creep up to his feet.
"Remember a few months ago when we met in this same spot? You were quietly rolling your beach ball on the sand. The tides took you ball, and I went after it. That was how we met." That's right, I was too shy to thank Rin for getting my ball back. He had a little shark key chain attached to his jacket, and I liked it. Since I loved sea creatures, I started talking about sharks, and he told me that those were his favorite animals. It's hard to believe that was only a few months ago.
I felt tears beginning to build up inside of me. "Rin, there's something I need to tell you too." Rin stood up and looked at me. "I was going to tell you this when we were older, but if I might not see you again, then I should tell you now." My heart was pounding so fast that I could hardly breathe. "Rin Matsuoka, I..I...I love you!" Shocked, Rin looked like he was speechless. "Ever since I met you, you've become my closest friend. You were always there to make me laugh when I needed it. You were always there to comfort me. What will happen when you're gone?" I felt more tears begin to form, but I wiped them away before Rin could notice. I held my breath and closed my eyes. While my eyes were closed, I felt something in my hand.
"Open your eyes." I opened my eyes as Rin ordered. The thing that Rin placed in my hand was something I would cherish forever.
"Your...shark charm!?" Rin smiled as I blinked back tears once more.
"Keep it. I was planning to give it to you at some point in life."
"Thank you, Rin," I hugged him, and wouldn't let go. By this time, the sun was shinning over the beach, causing the water to glisten.
"Well, I think it's time," Rin looked at his watch, my eyes averting his gaze. This was it. The plane's arrived, now is the time, he's going away for good. I tried to run, but it felt like the ground was slipping from underneath me. I've cried enough, I shouldn't cry anymore. Before I knew it, we were already at the airport. "Hey," Rin's voice woke me back to the cruel reality, "thanks for being there for me. I'm really gonna miss you when I head to Australia." He smiled and began to walk away, but I grabbed his hand, my own hand trembling with sadness.
"Ikanaide," I whispered. Rin turned around, his eyes filled with tears.
"I'll be back, promise," he whispered as he let go of my hand. It felt like everything was in slow motion. It felt like time had stopped. It felt like I was stuck in one spot, unable to move blink, or speak. That was the one moment that I'll never forget for the rest of my life.

Six years laterAt this point in life, I'm a third year at Iwatobi High. I've become friends with Rin's swim team from back when we were little. Rin's little sister, Kou, has also become friends with me, she even lets me call her Gou! I've been going to the ocean ever since the day Rin left for Australia. Speaking of him, I attached the shark key chain to a necklace so that I can wear it wherever I go. It was an early morning when I was walking along the shore, the same place where Rin and I met, and the same place where he gave me his beloved shark charm. "You said you'd come back," I muttered to myself, "so when?"
"Right now," a voice whispered behind me. My eyes were already forming tears.
"Rin?" My voice trembled. I turned around to see the same red-haired boy that I grew up with, the same one who promised to return. I hugged him imidietly, my head pressed against his chest, his heart beating just as fast as mine.
"I love you too," Rin replied, supposively replying back to my confession from when we were young. I embraced him tighter, and he placed a kiss on my forehead.
"You're staying for real this time, right?" I asked.
"Promise," Rin said before he kissed me on the lips. By this time, the sun was shinning over the beach, causing the water to glisten once more.
