愛してる (Ai x Reader)

There are three ways to say "I love you" in Japanese: "好き" is usually used when one is confessing to their crush. "大好き" is said if one is already in a relationship, or if they feel confident, it can also be used to confess to someone. "愛してる" is hardly ever spoken even in a relationship. I've longed to hear someone say those special words to me, but it's impossible, for love is forbidden at the music academy of Saotome. While I'm not writing music, I watch Shoujo, reverse harem, and occasionally Shounen Ai anime, dreaming of the day I would find someone to call my love.

Even if romance was allowed at the academy, who would I date? Tokiya looks pretty occupied with Otoya, Masato seems content with Ren, Natsuki is basically attached to Syo, and Cecil keeps nagging Haruka. As for Quartet Night, Camus would probably force me to be his servant for three months, and in the end, he'd most likely deny me anyways. I doubt I would have a chance with Ranmaru because Reiji is always with him. I've seen enough Shounen Ai to know that Reiji most likely has feelings for him, and honestly, I don't mind.

That leaves me with one last person: Ai Mikaze. Although he's more independent, his emotionless face makes me wonder if he's a robot. I've never seen him laugh, smile, or cry before. What are the odds of me sparking some sort of emotion in him? "You've been staring at me for almost five minutes. Is there something wrong?" Ai's voice nearly startled me.

"Uh, nope. I was just...uh....thinking about what...hm..." I was stumped on thinking of a white lie. His expression didn't change, but he moved closer to me.

"Would you like to see the sunset?" His question seemed really random, but if it means I get to spend time with Ai, then I'll accept that invitation. The sun was just barely beginning to set when we made our way to the patio. Rainclouds began to form above us, but we wouldn't go inside unless it began to rain.

"It's so beautiful," I sighed peacefully.

"It's the same sunset every single day," Ai remarked.

"No," I shook my head in disagreement, "this one is different." The radiant hues of red and orange perfectly mixed together with a gentle violet shade and a passionate pink, creating perfect harmony up above. The small rainclouds have now evolved into bigger, stronger stormclouds. In a matter of seconds, it began to pour. Suddenly, Ai collapsed in my arms, his body cold as ice. "Ai!?" Unfortunately, the other Quartet Night members were out doing something, so I had to take matters into my own hands. I'm a weak person, and I couldn't carry Ai like I planned to. Soaking wet, I dragged both of us to Ai's room, his entire body weight pushed down on my shoulders. How could this get worse? The rainstorm outside quickly evolved into a thunderstorm. If there's one thing that's considered my greatest fear, it's my fear of thunder and lightning.

As I maneuvered through the dark halls, lightning flashed every few seconds, followed by thunder. It felt like the nightmare would never end, that is until we finally reached Ai's room. I tried turning on the lights, but typically, the power went out. I carefully placed him on the bed, and he looked sound asleep. "Ai, wake up..." I whispered with a trembling voice, my shaky hand running its fingers through his damp hair. 'Maybe I should leave him alone,' I thought to myself. At that moment, a crack of thunder and a vicious flash of lightning woke me back to reality. Petrified, I inched my way onto the bed, carefully trying not to wake Ai. Before I knew it, I found myself pratically nuzzled in Ai's chest. Now I sort of hope he doesn't wake up any time soon, otherwise I'll be insanely embarrassed. To calm myself during the storm, I began to sing Winter Blossom. I remember when Ai first wrote that song. It was the end of winter last year, and he wrote that song as a farewell to the winter season.

In the end with a smile, I hope I don't cry
So I absolutely won't forget today
I will live on within you
For this love...thank you

I paused for a moment when I heard a faint beeping sound. I looked up at Ai, whose eyes were open, but looked very unusual. It seemed like his eyes, or maybe his entire body, was rebooting. He closed his eyes and opened them once more. He carried on the melody I had started.

And now, this existence known as me
I'll protect the flower you've become
Somehow I believe...In the future, this seed
Will blossom into my heart...I'm sure!
My promise to you

When Ai finished the song, he stroked the back of my head gently and placed a soft kiss on my forehead. "愛してる," he whispered in my ear. A crack of thunder caused me to embrace Ai tighter.

"わ...私も," I replied, my eyes on the verge of breaking into tears. Suddenly, I heard a very faint squeal coming from the outside of the bedroom door.

"Reiji..." Ai grumbled. The door opened slowly, and a figure with a guilty smile emerged.

"So-rry," Reiji mused, "I couldn't control myself. Just seeing you two together is the cutest thing!" He turned to look at the door. "Ran Ran, Myu chan, you guys coming in?" Both Camus and Ranmaru entered the room, their intimidating faces making my heart sink for some odd reason.

"The rain finally stopped. How 'bout we all go stargazing?" Reiji broke the awkward silence.

"Um...about Ai..." I let my sentence trail.

"It's nothing," Ai concluded. The five of us walked outside. The air was humid and the grass was damp, but the bright stars above made up for everything. Suddenly, Ai interlocked his hand with mine. "Now you know," he mumbled.

"Know what?" I looked at him with confusion.

"That I'm a robot." Well that explained that moment when his body was "rebooting."

"Even if you are, I still love you!" Those words casually fell out of my mouth, and I hardly realized it until the other three Quartet Night members turned their heads towards Ai and I.

"That's good." Ai placed a gentle kiss on my lips and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. I leaned against him while watching the glistening stars. If time could stop at any moment, now would be perfect. "愛してる," he whispered once more.

"私も," I mumbled before silently falling asleep in Ai's arms.
