I moped down the stairs to find my mom in the kitchen making breakfast
"Oh!" She jumped "You scared me, are you just now waking up?"
I nodded while she just stared at me "What?"
"Mercedes, it's almost 10, you should've been up"
"I know I was up til 3 doing papers, my English essay was twenty five pages long, plus I had two more to do after that"
"Oh honey, want some orange juice?" My mom asked as I nodded
"And I have to deal with cheer the captains been on my ass since day one"
"She's not giving you problems is she?" My mom asked as she handed me a cup of juice
I sighed "Yeah but I'm pretty sure it'll blow over"
My mom nodded "Okay, well how do you like Atlanta so far? Is everything okay"
"Yeah I'm just searching for a car now-"
"You need a car? I can arrange that"
"Mom are you sure?"
"Positive, you already have enough things on your plate, let me handle this"
I nodded "Ok"
"So what I've been meaning to ask, why did it take you and August two hours just to go to the store?" She asked as she slid a plate in front of me with pancakes, eggs, and sausage
"Um... he showed me around the area"
She just shrugged
August came into the kitchen yawning, he was shirtless, revealing his tattoos, and he had on grey sweatpants, he had on red Nike slippers, if we wasn't my stepbrother
"Good morning Aug-" she turned to face him "Don't tell me you just woke up too?"
"Ma, I was tired"
"Yeah you and Mercedes has that bad, staying up late only leads to bad habits, and I don't need my kids slipping into that" she said handing him a plate
"Aye where's pops?" August asked, putting damn near the whole bottle of syrup on his pancakes
"Oh there was an emergency, he got on a flight this morning, you know he likes to stay on top of things when it comes to business"
"So uh, Mercedes, are you goin to da kickback wit me?" August asked me
"Sure I'll go but I really didn't know I was going to spend the night and I didn't bring any clothes"
"Honey you can look in my closet, I don't know if you'll like anything in there but you can look to see" my mom butted in
