*fast forward to beginning of September*
Bella
It hurts. Every day, every hour, every second hurts without my best friend. It hurt even more as school drew closer to beginning until it was only a day away. We FaceTime and stuff but I miss him. I know I need to make other friends but he was my greatest.
It was the opening football game that happened every year the day before the first day of school. Jess was dragging me out to it like she did annually, but this particular one I didn't feel like going to. I know Shawn was busy in the studio since he got signed to a small record label. You know what, maybe it would be good. I could get my mind off of something that isn't next to me so I agree to go.
I put on black leggings and a baseball tee crop top with my adidas sneakers. I then tie my hair into a half up half down and put some beachy curls in before getting into my jeep to pick up jess.
When we get there I can smell the artificial nacho cheese and hear the hoards of fans screaming from the bleachers and I roll my eyes. I know I'm not the most positive ray of sunshine. I plop down on the cold bleachers next to jess who ended up just sucking face with her boyfriend anyway. I just sat there tuning out everything. I was only brought to reality when the first quarter bell rang signaling intermission. I could finally sneak out of the crowd away to the comfort of being alone. I spotted an old rickety swing set across the baseball field which was behind the bleachers. I plugged my headphones in and marched away into the setting sun before sitting on one of the 2 swings causing the whole structure to shake. I listened to "never be alone" by Shawn. No one knew but it was in fact about me. Shawn knew how I struggled and this song just came to his beautiful head.
I don't notice but I go through six loops of never be alone and one of life of the party before I unplug my earbuds once again. I walk back to the bleachers and sit next to jess. The halftime show is some kid singer from the rivals high school.
I look up from my Spotify playlist to see the face which the voice belonged to.
There he was.
