CHAPTER Sunrise

~Cora~

I don't remember falling asleep. I just remember sitting on the couch after feeding Cereal and showing Kako the shower, so I must have passed out after that. Not only did I not wake up on time, but I also didn't set my alarm.

Fudge.

When I did wake up, it was around 9:30. I'm supposed to wake up at 8.

I did one of those things where you open your eyes and instantly know something is wrong. I open my eyes and see the sun shine through the windows. I also smell something burning, and I hear Cereal barking, which is never a good sign.

Double Fudge.

I hear Kako yelling, loud and clear, "SILENCE BEAST! YOU WILL WAKE CORA!"

I rub my eyes and try my best to get up. I'm jolted awake when I see the kitchen.

The entire kitchen is trashed. The sink is spilling over with water, the counters are covered with cereal and flour, Cereal himself is trying to jump up onto the counter. Kako has a peice of bread in his mouth and is trying to shield himself with a frying pan. And THEN, there's all sorts of food and cardboard boxes sitting on the stove... while it's on.

I jump up and dash into the kitchen.

Turn off stove, check.

Shut off faucet, check.

Discipline two very bad cooks?

"You two are in big trouble!" I snap. I put my hands on my hips and glare at the god of Destruction and the Dog of Destruction.

Discipline, check.

Kako puts his hands up. "It wasn't me! It was the beast. I was just trying to make us breakfast!"

I glanced at the time and cursed. "Whatever, you're both still in trouble." I push everything on the counter and stove into the trash. Then I grab one surviving cereal box and throw it at him. "Eat this. I need to get to work." I make a PB and J in two minutes and throw it in the fridge. "That thing is for lunch. There's chips in the cupboard for when you get hungry.

I keep talking while grabbing my backpack and hairbrush from the hall closet, "I need you to stay here and hang out while I'm gone. Don't leave the apartment, don't throw Cereal out, and don't make a mess!"

Kako huffs, "What do I do while you're gone?"

"Read a book."

I open the door and blow kisses at Cereal and, by habit, Kako.

"I'll be back before supper."

~Cora~

"Better late than never Cora." The front desk girl says to me with a smile when I crash through the front doors with a hairbrush in one hand and a Starbucks coffee in the other.

I sigh and lean on the counter. "So, I am late."

"I'm afraid you are." She smiled and tapped on her computer, "Should I put you under up late all night reading again? Or is it movie marathon this time?"

"Dawn, could you be a good bestie and put me under not late this time?"

She grinned.

Dawn and I have been best friends since she started working here. She was like my other half, and also my opposite. Social, blonde, always looking good, and great with the guys. Dawn also had a soft spot when it came to her bestie, me.

I gave her puppy eyes, which she just laughed at.

"Fine, but you owe me." Dawn typed something into the computer, then focused her attention on me. "So how was your weekend. I heard about your dog. I hope he's ok."

"Uh... yeah. He's fine. Just some stomach problems." I replied. "How about you?"

Dawn probably waited all morning to tell me, because she immediately brightened up and got really excited. "I went on the best date ever! OK OK, so, you know how I love foreign food right? So Raymond took us to this awesome Mexican restaurant and we got this dish that was seriously on fire when they brought it out! I wish you would have seen it! And then we went out for ice cream and then after we watch this awesome movie and OMG Raymond is sooooo romantic! He told me how pretty I looked and how much he lov-"

My phone started ringing, much to Dawn's disappointment. I gave her a small smile and walked a little bit away to answer. "Hello?"

"CORA WHERE ARE YOU!" It was the head animator, who, apparently, was not sick anymore. "We need your script in five minutes!"

"I'm coming up now. So sorry, sir!" I waved good bye to Dawn and dashed to the elevator.
