Holding my cup in hand,
I take tiny sips of my latte as the rain trickles down the glass pane.
I can see the trees dancing in the wind,
The cold air leaving frost on the leaves.
I sit back and heave a sigh."Are you okay? You seem dazed."
I turn my attention back to the girl sitting across from me.
I can recognize her voice instantly now,
It sounds as delicate as rose petals.
Her blonde hair is falling naturally,
And her lilac sweater makes her look small.
She clutches her coffee tightly.
It looks cold."I'm okay."
"That's good."
Moments like these are the moments I wish I could fast forward through.
No one is speaking.
A couple of minutes pass by,
But not a single word is uttered by either of us.
The deafening silence is piercing me,
So I take a sip of my drink.
The café is almost completely empty,
As if we're the only people who live in the city.
The one sound you can hear is the rustling of the employees.
My fingers are tapping my cup,
As if the glass was a piano,
And somehow I could break the silence by playing a beautiful melody.
I try to think of something to say.
Ideas pop in my head, but:
No.
Nope.
Not good enough.
Start over.
Self-doubt is swirling around in my mind,
I'm too surrounded by my walls,
I'm suffocating.
I don't even notice my breathing getting rougher.
Hands shaking,
Face pale,
Heart beating fast.
I'm just a drop of water in a stream.
That's all I am.Jade places her hand on mine,
And I remember to breathe.
My head clears a bit,
I can see clearly again.
I look to see Jade smiling sadly.
Guilt rises in my chest,
I ruined a simple coffee "date"
(If you could even call it that),
Just because I don't do well in a social setting.
I'm terrible.I didn't have time to feel guilty for long.
Jade freezes suddenly,
Her face loses color.
She looks like a timid kitten.
I follow her gaze and see a man.
He's got blonde hair, pale skin, and brown eyes.
He walks in and goes to the counter.
His shoes make a loud sound when they hit the floor.
His eyes haven't glanced our way yet,
They're only locked onto his phone.
I look back at Jade,
She looks like she's seen a ghost.
She's frozen in place.I decide to take matters into my own hands.
I grab her arm,
And as quickly as possible,
We run through the café.
I pull her outside.
Cold air hits my heated face,
My hair moves in the wind,
And my eyes go narrow.
Jade's face looks defeated,
Different from how it was before."Sorry."
Our feet lead us down the busy street,
And I try to comprehend what happened.
I never even got to finish my drink at the café.
Did the man see us as we left?
Probably.Questions swirl around in my head,
I have the urge to scream them out.
I'm too curious for my own good,
But I can't help it.
My thoughts are like a tornado.
I almost say something,
But I bite my tongue.I can ask her those questions another day.
I'm alive! Sorry it's been a long time since I've updated, but I got sick again. On the bright side, I'm finally going to have more time to write! I'm looking forward to that. See ya later!🌈
