Christmas (16)

Christmas is overwhelming.

Stressing over finding the perfect gift,
And people causing havoc in the shops.
There's snow everywhere,
Freezing temperatures,
And dark nights.
Ice covers the street,
Every breath taken is visible,
And coats never seem to keep me warm.

But, there are happy children running around,
There's cheery Christmas carols that make you forget about the world,
And festive lights,
Shining like stars in the streets.
An aroma of hot cocoa fills the air,
And bells jingle in the dark, starry nights.

Christmas isn't too bad.

I ran to the shops early,
Hoping to find something magical for Jade.
I think I have the perfect thing.
A tiny, silver locket.
It's shaped like a sun,
Gold colors etched in the carved patterns.
She can wear it as a necklace,
It would complement her pastel colors perfectly.

I give it to her at our last study session prior to our break,
Right before Christmas.
I do it under the Christmas tree.
The clinking ornaments sparkling,
The pine scent easing me,
The star dancing on top of the tree.

Her face lights up like fairy lights,
Her eyes shining brighter than the moon,
A smile carved onto her face.
She giggles, and it sounds like wind chimes.
She examines the present closely
And smiles at me warmly.
I give her a hug,
And this scene seems like it could be captured in a Polaroid picture.

I've never seen her more excited,
She keeps smiling and holding me tight.
Even the fireplace couldn't compete with her warmth.
She laughs at everything I say and sometimes snorts accidentally.
Even the Christmas carols couldn't compete with her joy.
And, she looks at me in a way I can't describe.
Even the mistletoe couldn't bring any two people closer together.

Christmas is magical.
