It's Over

"Luna Kelsey Selgado is your actual real, authentic government name."

I stared at the paperwork and didnt even bother picking it up. I didn't dare touch it as I tried convincing myself to wake up from this horrible nightmare, one I've been living the past week. I've been sleeping at this place for about eight days, and I haven't seen nobody except the child worker, the man in front of me, and a medical care assistant. I've been interviewed multiple times too many and I'm ready to go home, not matter if it actually is or not mine. "Would you like to see a photo of your parents?" Donnie, the lead investigator, asked. I looked at him and my head moved a tiny bit. He reached into a manilla envelope and pulled out a little three by five picture and handed it to me.

"There names are Avellino and Belle Selgado. They are foreigners from Rouen, France who came over here in nineteen ninety seven and actually lived in Trenton, New Jersey. They then became pregnant with you and birthed you a year later. What we've concluded from their side of the story is that since they spoke no lick of English at the time, they relied on others to guide them. They had a home birth and Katherine, your supposed mother, had been in their neighborhood at the time, so she posed as a home nurse and offered to take care of you and though it was difficult to understand, they trusted her. What they remember is that she said she was taking you to go get an "American Ritual" done one day and never returned. They took it as thought I was a normal American thing and waited for eight years thinking you'd come back and both of you never did. Then finally they contacted us as we've been searching since."

Avellino was a very tall man. His smile was big and bright and his hair was thin like mine. He had a firm jaw line and a well structured face. He was pretty built under his clothes and had a tightly hold on Belle since they were hugging in the picture. She was medium height with thick wavy hair and bright hazel eyes. I had a body just like hers, an hour glass figure, and my smile perfectly matched hers. They were a beautiful couple, and I could see every ounce of myself in them.

"How did they contact you guys if they didn't know English?" I asked, the first words coming out of my mouth in about twelve hours. "We're guessing they learned over time, took in surroundings and such. It's pretty easy to catch onto other values once you're surrounded by them." I sighed and bit my lip, then beginning to laugh a little. "Are you good?" He asked filing out more paper. "Yeah, I just. I just realized why I'm so attracted to Paris and France so much. I've been all my life." I felt my back tingle up with goose bumps. Donnie sort of smiled and continued finding more stuff to show me. "Where's Julie and Finn?" I adjusted myself in the seat. "Julie is being detained still until further notice, but what I've been informed so far, she had nothing to do with it. And Mr. Hudson is I believe waiting for our session to be done to come and see you. His part in this investigation is complete" I nodded and sipped my water as he began to grab paperwork with a huge stamp across it reading 'Transfer Paperwork, LCPD Property'.

"What now has to happen is since you have been cleared of paperwork and right services, you by law have to go back to New Jersey with your parents."

"I beg your pardon?" I clenched onto the arms of the chair. "We understand that you're transferring to an eighteen year old in two months, but we would like for Mr. and Mrs. Selgado to keep you until at least the first of the year just so tensions can die down, we can take care of anything legal wise we have missed in the past seventeen years, and give us enough time to re-register you into the system as your biological self." "No no you can't do that, I'll be an adult and I can make my decisions." "But you can't control what the government has over you Ms. Selgado. I'm sorry but that's how we need it to happen." "Don't call me that that is not my damn name. My name is Camila. I don't care if I take their last night, but I've built my life of that name and who I am. Do you guys think I'm gonna press restart just because I'm not who I've been told I am to be?" I became upset. "I'm gonna go get your paperwork ready to fill and fax out, your parents have just landed at the airport so they should be ready to meet you in about three hours to wrap up this. I'm sorry Luna, but I have to follow what the state and law orders." He checked his phone walking out. "Please stop! I don't want this!" I cried as he just kept walking and shut the door behind him.

It's over for the next five months. I'll be living as Luna Kelsey Selgado in Trenton, New Jersey until January first. I'll have to quit my job, pack everything up, and worst of all, unenroll from William McKinley High School and the Glee club. I won't be able to see my friends, Finn, or contact Julie. Everyone will forget about me and I will be alone. Five months doesn't sound bad to an outsider, but I'm scared. I'm scared I'll be too drawn to my real parents that I won't want to leave. I'm scared that I won't be able to keep my friendships with everyone in tact while I'm gone. I'm scared I won't have money to come back. Where will I go if I do?

I'm scared Finn will find a replacement.

I stood still staring at the door across the room and cried into my hands. My body rattled and ached while the door opened again a few moments later. I couldn't look up and see who it was, nor could I process what was happening. All I could do was cry. I heard footsteps rush over and wrap their arms tightly around me and rock me back and forth.

"It's okay Camileon, I'm here for now." Finn soothed me quietly and I continued to roar sobs into his chest.
