-Christmas Day-
Carol and I decided not to use the big box like we did for the Glee club because my legs would pretty much cramp up sitting like that for almost an hour, so we chose a different route.
I helped set up Finn's laptop in the living room at an angle where I could see him and Carol. Little did Finn though that I'd be watching on facetime on a closed tab and that she wasn't recording. I had used the little money I had left over from the mini allowance my parents had given me before they had quit doing it all together to get Finn as much as I could afford. There were things even mixed in there Carol didn't know about until I told her, so Finn is definitely going to be confused.
As I was quietly talking to Carol, we heard his door swing open upstairs and I immediately bolted into the garage and Carol shut the door. "CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE!!!" Finn basically screamed as he stomped down the stairs. I held my hand over my mouth and felt my heart shutter hearing his voice. I watched on facetime on my phone as he squeezed Carol in a deathly hug and she chuckled hard. "Hi baby, Merry Christmas!" She kissed the part of his cheek she could reach. "Camila loved it last Christmas when I did that, so I made sure to do it for her recording." He tried whispering but I heard it and rolled my eyes chuckling.
"Well, let's get started! Looks like Santa packed a punch this year." Carol skimmed over the gifts. Finn plopped down right against the wall that was dividing us. I put my hand and forehead on the wall and closed my eyes with a quiet sigh. "Soon Finn, I promise." I told him. I watched him lean over to the laptop sitting next to him and smile. "Merry Christmas angel. I hope you had a good one when you watch this and Santa did you good. But, it'll be a better Christmas the day we reunite." His eyes lit up. "Oh you have no idea love....." I thought to myself.
I sat quietly and watched him and Carol open gifts. Finn would become so confused finding gifts from me and questioning when Carol had gotten them. I chuckled in amusement seeing how excited he was unwrapping this weird remote controlled monster truck he had been joking about with me over the phone while I was gone. "Did she ship you these?" He asked reading over the back of the boxes. "That's for me to know." Carol smiled, then looking at the camera and winking.
It finally came down to his last gift. It was a tiny box that Finn gently picked up. I made my way out of the side garage door as quietly as I could and to the end of the driveway, still watching them. Finn's eyebrow cocked up picking the garage door remote in the box and I grinned. "'You'll find me in the garage'" He read aloud confused. "Well, let's go!" Carol chuckled. "Mom did you get me a car....." Finn eyed her as she pulled him up off the ground, handed him his shoes and coat, and directing him into the garage. I turned Facetime off and put my phone in the back of my pocket, my heart beating fast.
Snow quietly fell around me as I stared blankly at the garage doors. My chest was rising and falling at a faster pace and my cheeks burnt the snowflakes that fell on them with anxiousness. Four months, twenty one days, and too many hours apart. Now, it's all over. I couldn't feel my heart beating once the garage door clicked and it began to rise. I could see their feet and my tears started falling, basically turning to icicles by the time they dripped off my chin. Once the door rose all the way up, Carol was still covering his eyes and she looked at me. I looked back at him and let out a shaky breath.
"Keep your eyes closed." Carol told him, taking her hands down and pulling her phone out. "Mom before I open my eyes, thank you for whatever I'm about to look at because I know I'm going to love it and be in too much shock to say anything." "Oh I know you'll be." I could hear her voice croaking with tears. "And don't thank me, thank her." She began to film and Finn made a confused look with closed eyes. "What?" He asked. Carol pulled his hands down from his eyes and he opened them.
I covered my mouth and let my tears fall completely. "Oh my god." Finn said quietly, then taking off running with me and realizing I was actually here and not some pixelized image. I ran up the driveway, finally colliding hard with him and falling in the snow covered yard. We cried hard into each other as Finn held me close. "Baby I'm here I promise. I'm home." I cried into his chest feeling him jerk in emotion. It felt so long as we hugged before he pulled away and looked at me. His face was bright red with tears. He pulled a hand up to my cheek and brushed my hair to behind my ear like he always did. I put both of my hands on his jaw and smiled softly. "You're real?" Finn's voice cracked. "Yeah I'm real." I whispered, frantically looking into his eyes and feeling over his faded freckles. I helped him up and he ended up hugging me a thousand times again. "I'm gonna start on lunch. You two go catch up." Carol said as we walked towards the house. Finn scooped me off my feet and basically soared into the house up the stairs, kicking his door shut with his foot.
He set me down on my feet and I wrapped him in another embrace. I pulled away and still held him, then finally leaning into a long, deep, and very much missed kiss.
