“I’m feeling better now thanks Louis.” She smiled and her eyes lit up as I made myself comfortable next to her on the bed and started absentmindedly playing with her hair… at least she hadn’t figured it out yet, and in Dr. Harvey’s eyes he’d like to keep it that way, for now at least.
(NIALL’S POV)
She was wheeled out of the room and Zayn had decided to go with her so it was just Harry, Louis, Liam and I left sitting in an awkward, stunned silence. “Well at least we can know for sure then that she doesn’t know who we are…” Harry attempted to break the silence but his comment only made it worse. It was an incredibly hard thing to wrap your head around, our friend had not only been through that horrific accident, and we had just earlier discovered that she’s pregnant and now she has no memory. Jeez, the universe really had it out for this girl.
“Okay well this means that we definitely have to follow through with our plan then, so um Louis you have the laptop right?” Liam drew us all out of our own little thinking bubbles and I quickly remembered that Louis had asked me to grab it so I reached out under the bed to try and grab for the bag I had put it in. Instead though I found a very unfamiliar bag, it was her bag.
“Uh guys, you might want to have a look at this.” I pulled it up onto the bed and they all came over to see what I had found.
“Is that, is that hers?” Louis had a confused look plastered on his face but Liam reached out for the bag and pulled open the clasp.
“Yeah I grabbed it and brought it with us in the ambulance. The police must have brought it back with them because they took it for research. The phone had been destroyed beyond repair though and the sim card snapped purposely by someone so it was of no use. They threw it out on the first day but took the bag with them.” We all sat there silently while he spoke. This was the first time any of us had heard Liam talk about that day, we were all stunned when we got his call from the hospital but he was always so fragile about the subject that we never pushed him to tell us. Liam doesn’t keep secrets though; he just takes his time telling us and only does it when he feels comfortable to do so.
Harry then pulled the bag away from him as Liam had been gripping it quite tightly and we were all getting slightly concerned. I then pulled out from under the seat what I had intended to in the first place. A large black laptop case and the DVD, which we had asked to be made, I set it up and then we all waited for Zayn to come back with her and hopefully some answers too.
(ORIGINAL POV)
I woke up once more in the elevator but this time Zayn was walking next to me and holding my hand as the elevator doors opened and we came out in to the all too familiar wing of the hospital. I squeezed his hand to let him know that I was awake and he grinned down at me, “Vas Happenin’ Blondie?” He smirked cutely as we rounded the corner and he gripped my hand tighter as we came back into my room. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw just the four boys waiting for me and not the police officers and unfamiliar hospital staff. A chorus of greetings met Zayn and I as I was wheeled back in but my eyes were fixed on two things that had appeared since I had been gone. A shiny white laptop sting on the table near Niall caught my attention first but then I could focus on nothing but the small brown leather bag clutched safely in Harry’s hands.
“You, you found my bag…” My voice trailed off as Harry smiled warmly and walked over to place it in my hands. It had a familiar smell too it which was a nice change to the sterile hospital smells but I didn’t open the bag. I already knew that there was nothing in it to help me; the phone and wallet had let me down in the alleyway depriving me of the only hope I had left to hold onto.
The boys’ casual banter continued as usual while we waited for the results of my scan but I couldn’t shake the feeling that they knew something I didn’t. They tried their best to cover up their obvious awkwardness but they failed horribly and I became even more curious when they all jumped up to catch me when I stumbled. It was sweet of them to do so but they were unusually on edge. Louis especially kept staring at my stomach when I was moved back into my normal bed but I passed it off as him being worried about my bandages and scarring surgical incisions like he usually was.
