"Take my hand; take my whole life, too. For I can't help falling in love with you..."
It was Saturday and Ethan was home with me. I woke up and his arms were wrapped around me, he was holding me close. I smiled, shifting my back deeper into his stomach.
Ethan's hand slid around my enlarged belly and he kissed my cheek.
"Good morning, beautiful," he whispered into my ear. I flipped to face him.
"Hi." I kissed him lightly. Smiling, he breathed in deeply and held the small of my back.
"What do you wanna do today? I feel like taking you to a special place today, how does that sound?" I smiled.
"That sounds great." It was mid August and the weather was warm. I was in my third trimester and a little past eight months. My stomach was extremely swollen and I could feel the twins pushing against me. Ethan and I already picked out names for the two.
The girl was going to be Alexandria Rosemary and the boy was Grayson Edward.
Ethan helped me somehow roll out of bed and waddle to the stairs. He held my hand and guided me down gently. I couldn't even see my feet at this point, so I needed all the help I could get.
Sometimes I would lash out on Ethan for being too close, too far, or just anything. After realizing how irritated my hormones were, I apologized endlessly for my behavior. Ethan would always say it was okay, but I would just start crying.
Life in that house was getting Hellish and I just couldn't wait to pop those kids out.
Once in the kitchen, I waddled my way to the cabinets to grab some cereal and Ethan grabbed the milk. We eat silently with the only sounds being the spoon hitting the bowl.
After eating, Ethan helped me dress into this beautiful white maternity dress Sarah picked out for me. Right as Ethan was changing, I heard pawing at the door. I crept to the door and opened it up, letting Blossom in. She grew quite a bit after we got her back in April.
She jumped on to the bed and sat quietly, staring at Ethan's back. When he finally turned around, he jumped. I guess he wasn't expecting the dog.
"When did she come in?" He asked me while I stepped quietly to sit in front of my vanity.
"Just now, she was pawing at the door." I combed out my hair and curled it softly. Ethan was dressed in a navy blue t-shirts and cargo shorts.
"Okay," he replied. He started to pet Blossom and she leaned into his touch.
"Hey," I said to the golden retriever, "stop trying to steal my man." She barked at me and Ethan laughed. I huffed and smiled. I threw on a pair of nude flats and waddled my way towards the door. Ethan reached me before I had to go down the stairs again.
Ethan helped me into the car and opened the back door for Blossom to hop in.
The drive was about a half an hour, but it felt like forever. I complained until he let me use the aux chord. Plugging in my phone, I played a lovely cover of "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" by Twenty One Pilots (originally by Elvis). Ethan drove while I rubbed my stomach and hummed along.
The road started to get a little bumpy as we drove up a hill. He stopped at the top.
"Here we are!" He said excitedly. After opening the door for me, Blossom was let out next. I held the dog by her leash as Ethan went to the trunk.
"What are you getting, Babe?" I asked him.
"This," he said as he pulled out a camera. "I don't think you ever got a pregnancy shoot, did you?" Ethan bent down to pick up a white flower to place in my hair. He was so sweet and I couldn't have a bigger smile.
"Alright, so what do you want?" I ask. He tapped his chin.
"I want you to sit on that rock and face side ways. Then, turn your body to face me with your head down and a warm smile on your face." I laughed at his specific directions, but followed his orders.
I had numerous photos taken of me, it was fun. We even had a photo with Blossom sticking her paw on my stomach.
Soon, it was three in the afternoon and we went back into the city. I just wanted to go home because my ankles were swollen and my feet hurt.
Once we were home, Ethan made us some lunch. After I ate, the full effects of the day hit me. Hard.
"Hey Babe, I'm gonna go take a nap. My body's starting to feel really sore." I started to get up from my seat when Ethan came to my aid.
"Okay, let's go." He kissed my forehead and lead me up the stairs to our room. Once I was changed into more comfortable clothes, I glanced up at him.
"Are you gonna sleep with me?" I asked.
"I will," he started, "later." I frowned. "I just have to make a call, then I'm all yours. Don't wait up, okay?" I nodded my head, understanding how busy he was.
I of all people should know, I was his secretary for years. I remembered the calls from nasty clients and how hard he worked on his fashion line. Now, he does that all for me. At the time, my life couldn't be any better.
I snuggled into the thin covers and nodded off to sleep.
~X~
Pain. That was all I could feel. I felt like I had to take a shit, but is was different. It was evening outside and Ethan wasn't next to me, he was probably making dinner.
"Ethan!" I tried to yell, but it turned into a squeak more so. Still he heard as bounding from the stairs echoed through the house. When he finally entered the room, I was clutching my stomach as my body automatically went into a pushing pain.
Contractions.
"Katie? Katie, what's wrong?" Ethan asked me worriedly.
"I'm having contractions. We need to go, now." I grit my teeth and the pain finally stopped. I glanced at Ethan's watch. He must've caught my gaze as he reached for it.
"I'm taking the time in between, calm down. Is bag already packed?" I nodded my head. "Then let's go."
Ethan grasped my hand and helped me down the stairs after he grabbed my bag.
The babies were coming... and I was terrified.
