Chapter Twelve

John's POV

1 month later

I sit at my desk, looking over an off campus permission document for the Human Garde. The Academy doesn't let them off campus, but I want them to have more freedom to live in their world, rather than be like prisoners here.

I look up from my laptop and see Six standing by the door. Leaning against the glass wall. Her black locks fall around her shoulders casually. Her eyes show tiredness but remain resilient. I grin at the sight of her.

"Hey," she says.

"How are the minions?" I ask.

"Good, I started helping them coordinate with each other today. It was funny," she chuckles.

"What did they do?"

"Oh, they almost killed each other once, I had Victoria and Lisè work together and Victoria almost burned a hole in Lisè but she became a snake just in time," Six says.

"Ouch."

Six shakes her head.

"They are so entertaining sometimes," she says.

"I bet," I say.

"Anyway, I'm gonna head out," Six says.

"Ok, see ya," I say.

She nods and steps towards the door. As she walks out, she calls "Later, Idiot."

I walk silently into my house, munching on some onion rings, when my phone rings.

Marina.

"Hey Mar," I say when I pick up the phone.

"Hey! You busy?" Marina says.

"Nope," I say as I unlock my front door.

"Good, cause I'm bored," she says.

"So you called me?"

"Yeah, nobody else would pick up," she says.

"Not Six?" I ask.

"She said she was busy," Marina groans.

"Oh," I say. "Did she say what she was doing?"

"Nope."

Marina and I talk for a while, but then she starts asking dumb questions.

"So are you actually trying to talk about something interesting? It's not working," I say.

"I'm actually not trying," Marina says.

"Bummer."

"Oh, uh Six is calling me, gotta go!" She says.

"Later."

I just remembered my "birthday" is tomorrow, of course I knew that, but it floats in and out of my thoughts. Nobody has been telling me to go out and do something or anything, maybe they realize that my birthday is just another day to me now. I did manage to get off work for it though. I plan on having a date with Six and Netflix.
