~A week later~

Mitch and I sat in the therapy room with a handful of other kids. The only reason Mitch is here is because he isn't busy. Loren was getting a pedicure, dad was working his butt off so Loren can get that hundred dollar pedicure, and Jerome was recording a ton of videos because he was going on a trip when Mitch leaves.

Mitch and I sat next to each other, talking about things while we waited for Dr. Richardson. "Did you know that I-"

"Hello? Are you... Maddiline Acite?" A fairly pretty lady asked me. I nodded my head.

"Dr. Richardson is not here today, family business. I will be helping you today! He said that you are about ready to start to try walking..." She started to murmur as she jotted things down on a clipboard. I turned to Mitch, who leaned over his chair to hug me.

"Just hold on to the bars, Maddie." Mitch said. I took a deep breath, closing my eyes as I elevated myself up. Mitch took my hand, helping me. I felt my legs start to wobble.

"I can't Mitch. I can't." I said as I crashed back down. I put my elbow on the arm rests, and started to cry.

"Yes," He lifted my head with one finger as he kneeled down. "You can." He hoisted me up, taking my hands and walking backwards.

I took a step.

Two.

Three, even!

But at four, my feet couldn't handle anything else. They gave in, making me fall forward into Mitch's arms.

His arms wrapped around my skinny body. One of mine were on his shoulder, and another around his neck. My head was buried into his stomach, and I was tightening my grip, just in case.

"See?" He said as he carried me back to my chair.

"Thank you Mitch." I smiled.

A girl, who looks no older than thirteen, had rolled up to me. It doesn't look like she will be able to walk, she's missing her feet. Her red hair slid across one of her blue eyes.

"That was amazing. When I get my fake feet, I want to walk." She smiled at me. "I never had any... I'm Izzie, by the way."

I felt bad for Izzie. She never had any feet, which makes me feel selfish because I am so excited to walk again. "Maddie." She had turned around to look at two kids. Both of them has a bigger disability than me. One was a boy who looked fourteen, had big blue eyes and bleach blonde hair. If you didn't look below his waist, he would look like an average teenage boy. But the sad thing is, he doesn't have any legs. There was an African American girl, who only has one arm I took a deep breath, holding back a tear.

"Maddie?" She asked me when her body turned back to me. Izzie's friends had walked-and strolled-up to is. I nodded. "Guys, this is Maddie. Maddie, this is Jamie and Ashton." I saw her blush as she said Ashton's name.

"So, how did you not be able to walk? I was ten and-" Ashton shut himself up, taking a deep breath. They have it worse for you, Maddie, don't ever say that that car accident was the worse thing ever. I said to myself.

"Oh, a car accident when I was fourteen. My mom and I were fighting. She died, I lived." I tapped my fingers on the arm rest as Mitch came up behind me. Jamie stared at me with a sympathetic look.

"I'm sorry. Guy," She turned to Ashton and Izzie. "I am getting my fake arm tomorrow!" Izzie put up her thumbs, looking down at her legs. Ashton looked sadder than he just did a minute ago.

"Well, we have to go guys." Mitch cut in, pulling my chair backwards as I waved. I turned my head with an annoyed look on my face.

"Why did you do that?" I asked him, he took out his phone and pointed to the clock. Ten fifteen, fifteen minutes after we were supposed to leave. "Errg. Anyways, what were you going to tell me a hour ago?"

"Well, I was going to tell you that I have-" The sound of his phone went off. No one can ever complete a sentence, can they? "Had." He muttered, kicking the wall then clutching his toes. "I can't believe she did this..." He sat on a bench, holding his head in his hands. What if I just, I don't know, kissed him right now? Maybe it would be the best moment of both of our lives! Then again, no one likes me like that.

"You had, what?" I asked him, like it wasn't the most obvious thing ever. I know he was going to say he had a girlfriend, and that would leave me heartbroken.

"A girlfriend named Lilly. But that is over. I can't believe she broke up with me... Over text!" He started to make a scene. Everyone stared at us, the nurses raised their eyebrows, and the kids had surprised looks on their faces.

"Mitch, calm down." I whispered.

"No, I won't calm down! I loved her with all my heart and she just broke it without any reason! You don't know what it's like to have someone go out of your life without having any say in it." After he said it, he realized what he said.

"She didn't die." My last words to him before I left the building. She didn't. Mine did.

Mitch's POV

I am such an idiotic jerk.

Why did I even say that? Of course she knows how it feels, she lost someone! Just watching her beautiful, happy face turn sad melted my heart.

My phone went off again, and again, and again. Lilly had texted me, 'Just kidding!! Did I get you babe?' and 'Please reply! I am really sorry!' and then the last one 'I love you so much, Mitch. Please, just text back!'.

I did, I truly did.

I hate you so much right now, Lilly. I don't even want to talk to you. We are through. No just kiddings, we are done.

She never said to make me say romantic, funny things. Who would after what just happened? Not me. The worse thing about everything, is that I have feelings, strong ones, too, for Maddie and I said that.

My ringtone started to ring.

"Hey, Jerome." I said, still sitting on the bench, one of my hands holding up my head still. My eyes were closed, waiting for a yelling from Jerome.
