The platform was crowded.
Students from Kunugigaoka High School stood in neat clusters, divided not just by class—but by status. Classes A through D occupied the front, their luggage arranged neatly beside them, their posture composed. E-Class lingered further back, their section less organized, their presence... quieter.
But not unnoticed.
A low hum of conversation filled the air as they waited.
Then, right on time, the train pulled into the station.
Its arrival shattered whatever order remained.
Students from the upper classes surged forward, scrambling to board first—voices rising, footsteps quickening. The only one who didn't move was Gakushū Asano, who remained where he stood, composed as ever, watching the chaos with thinly veiled disdain.
Further down the platform, a different kind of attention was being drawn.
Irina Jelavić.
Or rather—
Bitch-sensei, as the students called her.
She strutted down the platform as if it were a runway, dressed more like a supermodel than a teacher on a school trip. Heads turned instantly.
Karasuma appeared beside her in a flash.
The smack echoed louder than expected.
"We are supposed to be keeping a low profile," he said flatly. "What part of that outfit suggests 'low profile'?"
Irina pouted. Complained. Protested.
Karasuma didn't budge.
Moments later, she was sent off to change.
While the distraction unfolded, Ayame noticed a familiar figure watching her.
Her brother.
He gestured subtly.
She hesitated—just for a moment—before lightly bumping Karma's shoulder as she passed.
"I'll be back," she murmured. "Wait for me?"
Karma nodded without looking at her directly.
Then she turned and walked toward Gakushū.
"I see you and Akabane have grown... close."
His tone was sharp—layered with annoyance, suspicion, and something deeper he didn't quite show.
Ayame met his gaze evenly.
"We're classmates," she replied. "Nothing more."
A pause.
"You know how Father is," she continued calmly. "Anything less than perfection isn't tolerated. Associating too closely with E-Class would only cause problems—for both of us."
Her eyes flickered, just briefly.
"If I stay close to you, it damages your reputation. If I don't... I'm still a disappointment."
Silence settled between them.
Both knew the truth of it.
Both remembered what happened to the last person who challenged their father's system.
No one ever saw him again.
Rumors said his family moved overseas.
Neither of them believed that was the whole story.
Gakushū exhaled slowly.
He understood.
More than he let on.
