We were beginning to get bored. We weren't asleep so Bill and I couldn't while away our time playing chess. So we began talking. About something. About anything. Silently of course. My body hadn't moved a single muscle in hours. We hadn't even blinked.
Just when I was wondering how long Colman was going to take, the door buzzed open and the man himself came walking through. Three men behind him. They carried nine TV screens on tall poles with wheels. Like music stands.
"Ooh! Are we watching a movie? How about Hitchcock? No no, Chainsaw Massacre! Ooh! Chucky! Or Annabelle!" Bill suggested. Jolting my body to life.
"Shut up." Colman said. He piled out a knife from his belt.
"And what exactly are you going to do with that?" Bill asked. Turning serious.
"I'm giving you one last chance to talk." Colman said.
"Isn't this escalating quickly. Isn't there some rule that you have to make the victim wait for a few hours before giving them the final choice?" Bill laughed. "Oh wait. It has been a bit since we last saw you! Time starts to loose meaning when you're in a single room with no windows. Y'know?"
"Is that a no?" Colman asked cooly.
"C'mon Mark. Can I call you Mark?" Bill asked.
"No." Colman said, a little more irritated.
"Alright then Mark. Hit me with you're best shot." Bill smiled widely. Crazily at the agent.
You might wanna brace yourself Pine tree. I know you won't feel it when I'm in control but...
Aw. You care. I would've rolled my eyes if I could have.
And then Colman sliced up my body.
Slowly, carefully and precisely, in shallow cuts so that I wouldn't bleed out. First my arms, in horizontal slits, and then my chest. My stomach. My legs. Bill was silent for a while, and then asked him, "are you done yet?"
Colman looked up. And where we expected a look of surprise at least, there was a smile.
"I didn't think physical torture would be your breaking point. So we had this arranged." Colman stood up and wiped the knife with a handkerchief.
I think we may have underestimated them. They jumped straight to the big guns. Bill muttered.
"Turn them on." Colman ordered the men behind him. And a split second later the nine screens were turned on.
For a second I didn't understand the dim colours. But then the screens brightened and my breathing stopped. My mind froze.
Everyone from the wheel was there. In a room like ours, strapped to a silver table and hooked up to sliver bands and wires. They all were quiet. Silent. Gideon, Robbie, Soos, Pacifica, Wendy, McGucket, Stan, Ford and ... Mabel.
