We stopped by CVS to pick up something’s for hope before going to the hospital. When we reached there and went to the waiting room it was filled with big bulky men. If I were anyone else I would be scared to step foot into the room but seeing as this is the group of people I grew to love and call my family I didn’t faze me in the least. “Oh my gosh promise I didn’t know what to do. I tired I really did but everything we did didn’t help her I’m so sorry I didn’t know what to do” cedric said as he came up to me and held me. “It’s ok cc everything is going to be ok” I said but I don’t know who I was trying to convince more me or him. The doctor came into the room at that moment. “Promise can you please come with me she wants you” he said softly reaching a hand out to me. I took it and he gave me a reassuring squeeze before we walked to hope’s room silently. When we reached the room I could hear her cries. I immediately let go of the doctor’s hand and rushed into her room. When I walked in I see a nurse holding her hands and another nurse trying to give her a shot. “She won’t settle down so she was going to be sedated to relax her body” Doctor Johnson explained quickly before I punched the nurses for touching my baby. “Let her go and get out before I kill y’all” I said my voice coming out low and deadly. They all quickly hurried out the room and the doctor gave me look asking if I was going to be alright I just gave him a weak smile and small nod. He nodded back and closed the door softly behind him as I walked over to hope. When I reached her side she jumped up and clung to me for dear life. “It’s ok sweetie don’t worry mama’s got you” I said soothingly in her ear. I took out the little medicine my grandma made for me when I was younger that helped me whenever I was sick but couldn’t go to the doctor because of all the bruises and scars on my body. I gave her a teaspoon and then rubbed some white rum on her neck and over her head and laid her down. “I’ll love you forever I’ll love you for always as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be” I sang softly for her as I nursed her just like how my grandma use to do me when I had killer fevers and my so called parents did nothing about it. I made her drink Gatorade so she could get her fluids. After an hour she was asleep and I could already feel her fever going down. She just needed to sleep and relax her body and have another teaspoon in 3 hours and her fever should be gone down by tonight. Looking down at the little bottle my grandma gave me I could see it was almost done. I texted Omar and told him to go have grandma make some more and pick it. I climbed into the bed next to hope still singing lightly trying to keep her calm.
“Promise” I heard someone call my name softly. My eyes fluttered open and I looked up to see Doctor Johnson locking at me with a gentle smile. “Oh hey doc what’s up” I asked rising up a little careful not to wake hope. “We ran some test on hope while you guys were sleeping and she’s fine right now, what did you give her” he asked curiously. “Something my grandma gave me when I was sick and rubbed some rum on her.” I said looking down at hope and pressing my hand to her forehead. Her temperature was back to normal but still a little hot. “Well whatever you did helped her out a lot. I glad you were the one to take this little angle in. but these things happen the excessive blood loss and the fevers it’s all natural when it comes to leukemia we just have to keep a real close eye on it so it doesn’t get worst. But we would like to keep her in here just for a couple of days to keep that eye on her” he explained “no” I said I’ll be damned if they keep promise in this hell. “ex- excuses me” he stuttered. “I said no I’m not going to let y’all keep my baby in here. y’all can’t even keep her calm enough without shooting her up with drugs. I’ll keep an eye on her and so will the other 30 or so men in the waiting room that wools take a bullet for this little girl if they had to. I’m not keeping her in here. I’ll bring her in for her checks ups and treatments like what we have been doing but I’m not keeping her in here I hope you can respect that doctor but I will be leaving now thank you for your time god bye” I said as I scooped up promise and her doll and strolled out the room. “You guys lets go” and turned around and walked out of that hospital. I can’t have her in there letting them shot her up with drugs and keep prodding her with those needles. She already has to deal with those treatments and stuff I’m not putting my baby through that.
When we all got to the house I woke hope up and gave her, her medicine. Then we all settled into the living room and watched a movie. Every one of the guys watched hope’s every little move like she was going to break or something it really was a sight to see. “Guys hope’s birthday is next week” I said trying to make everyone feel better. “we know and we each already got our little angle something” Dominic said coming over and giving hope a kiss on the check and picked her up and pulled her into his lap. “Tell them what you wanna do sweetie” I said softly looking at her. “I want to go to the beach with all of you and have lots of cake” she said excitedly.” Whatever you want sweetie you could get” Omar said handing her some of his ice cream. “And I want mama to buy me a bike and you to help me ride it” she said to Omar quietly “hey how come he gets to teach you and not me” cedric complained loudly. “Because I smarter than you duhhhh we’ll never learn anything if you teach me” she said and rolled her eyes. Everyone burst out laughing at that while cedric pouted and sank in his seat with his arms crossed. And that’s how it went for the rest of the night joking around and planning for hopes birthday party.
I stayed out of school for the rest of that week to care for hope, I just couldn’t leave her. But it’s Monday and I’ve already missed about 2 weeks of school already. As I pulled up into the school parking lot I saw everybody in their usual groups talking and catching up about their weekends. When I parked my car and hopped out everybody all my friends swarmed me seeing as I haven’t talked to most of them in a while. While we all talked and caught up I heard a demanding “move” the voice was cold and stern and deadly clam. When I looked up I seen a furious Jayden as he held amberay (girl who called his phone) by the elbow and pushed her forward “tell her the truth. NOW” he said his voice deadly calm eyes blazing and face murderous. “Jayden isn’t my dude” she said softly “speak louder so she can her every fucking word you have to say you caused me so much shit these past few weeks and I just about want to kill you right now” he said as he looked down at her with a hard cold look. I knew he wouldn’t really harm her; Jayden doesn’t have a heart to actually hurt a female. “Promise I’m sorry I didn’t mean to come in between you and Jayden and cause problems “she said louder than the first time she spoke. “Keep going” he said slowly. “I never sleep with him but I just wanted him to be mine and I knew he settled down now but I still tried to get in between imp sorry” she said as she burst into tears. I looked up at Jayden and raised an amused eye brow at him. He caught my gaze his eyes blazing with anger frustration sadness amusement and love. I turned to look at Danielle and she was looking at the girl who dropped to her knees pouring her eyes out for no reason. My stomach started to flutter again it has been doing that a lot lately. I raised my hand and rubbed soothing circles lightly on my stomach. Jayden casted his eyes on my stomach watching my hands every move. He looked like he wanted to come next to me, but stayed where he was not knowing if it’s the right time to approach me. looking back down at the girl who was being over dramatic to get some attention ho was no laying on the floor bawling loudly and back up to Jayden and then back to my friends who looked like they wanted to burst out laughing and back to Jayden “wow” was all I said and then the fools behind me burst out laughing and the girl to sit up angrily with a humph “come here” I said to Jayden softly opening my arms he didn’t hesitate as he walked over to me and engulfed me into his arms. The warmed he always gave off embraced, god I missed him so much. I thought to myself as I held on to him tighter to him. In the distance I heard the bell ringing “come on I have to actually get to class today” I said as I pulled away from him a little and looked into his eyes. “Promise I’m so fucking sorry, that hoe has been pestering me since last year trying to get me to fuck her but I never did promise I swear. I’m so sorry promise I’m so sorry. I love you” he said into my neck quietly. I back so he could look at me and I reached up and pressed my lips to his “its ok jay baby don’t worry about it” I said and turned and started walking to the school entrance. When I turned around, I seen Jayden still standing in the spot I left him his hands in his pockets and his head casted down, his face looked so sad and like he was in pain. I walked back over to him and laid my hand on his cheek lightly. He looked up and gave me a weak smile, I returned his smile with a small one and reached up and brushed my lips to his softly. “I love you Jayden” I said softly when I pulled back. He looked into my eyes and kissed me softly “I love you too promise, never forget that” he said and pulled me into a hug.
