Chapter 20 Knock Knock

Tamera stood there for a moment trying to process what Jared had just said. "Wait, what?! You can't love me! You have a girlfriend!" Tamera said with her mouth still open. "I broke up with Claire today. That's why I hadn't come in to work yet." Jared said with a soft look. "What the hell is wrong with you? Are you mental or something? I mean you make me believe we are best friends for seven years, next you say we were never friends, then you save me and act like we are buddies, and now you say that you love me! Make up your friggin mind!" Tamera said with wild voice.

"I have made up my mind and I want you and I to be more than best friends." Jared said stepping toward her and putting his hands on her arms. "I-" Tamera started to say before she was cut off by the sounds of footsteps running down the stairs. "We need to go!" Tamera said holding the serum in her hands and heading for the other door. Jared followed closely behind but they didn't make it far. Ian and two of his men were blocking their way out.

Jared started to advance when but was held in place by two of Ian's men. "Bring him here." Ian said with a cold tone. His men obeyed and took Jared to Ian. When Jared was within striking distance Ian lashed out with a powerful punch to Jared's gut. The punch would have sent him to his knees if Ian's men hadn't been holding him up. "Now, Tamera, if you give me the serum I won't put a bullet in his skull. The choice is yours." Ian said raising his gun to Jared temple.

"I will give you five seconds to decide. Five... four...three...two...o-" "Wait! I'll give you the serum just please don't kill him." Tamera said with tears in her eyes. "Tamera, no." Jared said in a weak voice. Tamera started to put a the green vile in his hands when a shot rang out. Ian recoiled back holding his chest and let his gun drop. Ian then sank to his knees face down. Tamera and Jared both looked to see Kevin standing with a gun holding his side. "Don't you dare mess with my friends you, son of a bitch." Kevin said with a serious face before he collapsed to his knees.

Tamera and Jared rushed to Kevin's side and propped him against a wall. "I thought you were dead." Tamera said. "Knock knock." Kevin said with a weak smile. Jared and Tamera exchanged glances. "Who's there?" Jared with a concerned look. "Not Ian." Kevin said with a huge smile. "Really! That's the best you could come up with?" Jared said with a playful tone. "Hey! With such short notice I thought it was pretty good." Kevin said coughing up some blood. "I think you're losing your touch, my friend." Jared said with a weak smile. "Take care of her, Jared." Kevin said before closing his eyes. That was the last time Tamera would ever see Kevin smile.
