Chapter 18 - The Prison

A few days pass. Jorge is still in shock over what happened. Aidan figures that they need to move soon. Nicole doesn't know what to think. She cannot believe what Dylan had done. Through all their time together she wouldn't have guessed he'd do something like that. 

"Jorge, we need to move." Says Aidan.

"..." Jorge says nothing in response. He just sits on a chair. Staring blankly at the wall.

"Jorge, are you even listening?" Asks Aidan.

"..." Jorge stays silent.

Aidan walks over to Nicole.

"What do we do about Jorge?" Aidan asks Nicole.

"I...I don't know." Replies Nicole.

Aidan walks out of the house. He's checking to see if there are any zombies nearby. Aidan stands on the front porch. He sees a few zombies within a few feet of the house. He steps off the porch, knife in hand. He walks over to the first zombie and quickly takes care of it. He quickly takes care of about three more in the span of thirty seconds. He stands in the middle of the street. He thinks 'Where do I go from here?' He decides to head back inside. When he walks in he sees Nicole standing right in front of him.

"We need to leave soon." Says Nicole.

"I agree but to where? Where will we go?" Replies Aidan.

"I still think we should go to the prison. " Jorge says quietly.

"Don't you think they'll be there? Dylan and Drew? Dylan thought that going to the prison was a good idea. What's stopping them from going there?" Replied Aidan.

"Then where do you suggest Aidan?" Asks Jorge. 

"I think it's time to go back home." Says Aidan.

"Nicole, what do you think? Prison or home?" Asks Jorge.

"I honestly think we should check out the prison. If they are there then we can leave and head straight back to the house." Replied Nicole. "It's worth a shot, right?"

"I think so." Says Jorge. "Aidan?"

"Fine. We can go to the prison but we'll wait for tomorrow morning." Replies Aidan.

 It's morning. Around seven thirty. Aidan's awake early. He knows that this will be dangerous. He hopes that the prison is safe but expects the worst. 'It'll be over-run.' He thinks to himself.He gets everything packed and ready to go before anybody else is awake. He goes to sit on the front porch while he waits for the rest of them to wake up.

Soon after Aidan packs everything up Nicole wakes up. She goes downstairs to see the front door open. She goes outside and sees Aidan sitting on a chair.

"Everything alright?" Asks Nicole.

"I have a bad feeling about the prison. " Aidan replies.

"I'm sure we'll all be fine." Said Nicole.

Jorge walks outside.

"Ready to go?" Asks Jorge.

"I guess." Replies Aidan.

They set off to go to the prison. They know it won't take too long to get there. Under a half hour walk. Whilst walking the come across the bridge Christopher had died on. Jorge takes a second and continues walking towards the prison.

They arrive at the prison. They stand in front of a fence with barbed wire at the top. They see no clear way to enter from where they're standing.

"Want me to grab you a rock, Jorge?" Asks Aidan.

"No. I'm sure we can find a way in." Replied Jorge.

Jorge walks around the fence a little bit and finds an opening in the fence. 

"Looks like someone was already here. We should just head back towards the house now, right?" Says Aidan.

"I'm sure it'll be fine." Replies Jorge as he squeezes through the opening in the fence.

Nicole follows behind Jorge.

"C'mon Aidan, it'll be fine." Says Nicole.

Aidan reluctantly goes through the opening of the fence.

As they walk in the field going towards the front doors of the prison they hear a noise. Jorge looks to his right and sees zombies coming towards them.

"Go, run for the doors. We gotta be quick." Says Jorge.

They all run for the front door to the prison. Once they all get inside they try their best to blockade the door so the zombies can't just walk in. They walk down a hallway, the lights are busted, they can only barely see what's in front of them.

They soon come across a door. It's locked. Jorge tries to open it but has no success. Aidan quickly finds a button and pushes it. A loud sound plays throughout the prison. The door is unlocked now but they have attracted attention to themselves. 

Jorge opens the door and they all run into where ever the door would lead. It's a room with five cells on each side of the room. Each cell has at least one zombie in it. All but two cells don't. On the other side of the room, there's another door.

Within seconds the other door starts to open releasing ten or so zombies. Jorge and Aidan turn around to see the door had closed behind them. While they try to open the door Nicole goes into one of the open cells and locks herself in one. Aidan and Jorge can't figure out how to open the door so they both turn around and start to try and kill the zombies coming their way.

The two of them are able to take out the ten that came through originally but they hear more coming quickly. 

"Go!" Nicole says.

"What? No! I'm not leaving you here." Replies Aidan. Aidan goes back to trying to find a way to open the door. He finds a button close to the door a presses it, it opened all the cell doors in the room. There were now too many zombies to manage. There's another button under the one that opened the cells and Aidan presses it, it opened the door. Jorge goes through first, Aidan starts to go through when he hears Nicole scream in pain.

"What just happened?" Aidan Asked in fear for what he just heard. 

Aidan turns around and sees Nicole wasn't exactly behind him. She was in the middle of all the zombies that were in the room.

"No!" Aidan screams. 

Jorge grabs Aidan by the arm and forces him out of the room and closes the door behind him. Aidan tries to open the door but the button won't work.

"We have to go!" Says Jorge.

"We have to get Nicole!" Replies Aidan.

"It's too late! We have to go now!" Replied Jorge.

Aidan falls to the ground in tears. Jorge picks Aidan up and puts him in a fireman's carry and gets him out of the prison. Jorge drags Aidan through the opening in the fence and props him up against the fence.

"Do you think Nicole would want you to die right now?" Asks Jorge.

"W...What?" Replies Aidan.

"Do you think that Nicole would want you to kill yourself going back there?" Says Jorge. "No, she would not. She'd want you to keep moving."

"But I-" Aidan says but is cut off.

"-I know this isn't gonna be easy leaving her behind but we need to keep moving." Said Jorge. "I don't care where we go next but it isn't going to be back inside that prison."

They start moving, going back to the house they had been in the past few days.
