I looked up from my book when I heard running footsteps to see Alexander running into the bookcases.
I shook my head, he was probably fine, must've really wanted to find a book. I smiled, I wouldn't have held it against him.
I tried to shake of the dark feeling I had gotten but small voice in the back of my head whispered, "He was crying. He's not okay. You should be there for him, but you're not."
I sighed and stood up, even if it was nothing it would be rude not to make sure.
I walked into the books, hopeful that I was going the right direction.
After a while I heard the sound of sobbing and sped up, going toward the sound.
I found him in a corner, he was curled up, sobs shaking his small figure.
I slowly approached, then sat down gently next to him. I placed my hand on his shoulder and he pulled back, looking up in fear. His cheeks were strained with tears, and his bottom lip was trembling.
"Hey, it's okay... It's okay," I kept my voice low and gentle and I slowly reached out for him.
He let out a held in sob and fell against me, burying his head in my shirt. I held him and we sat there for a while, I even rocked him, whispering it's okay every now and then.
Eventually he pulled back wiping his eyes and avoiding eye contact.
"Thank you," he whispered.
"Anytime... May I ask why you were crying?"
Alexander sniffed and shrugged. "John..." He faded off, then took a deep breath. "I wasn't aware John was dating anyone."
I frowned, "John's dating someone?"
Alexander shrugged again.
My brow furrowed I reached for Alexander's hand. "What makes you think that John is dating someone?"
He sighed, "I bumped into him on my way out of the office..."
"And he told you...?"
"No." Alexander looked up with a sniff. "It was more of an inferring thing... They were holding hands and she was being over protective..."
"She?" I asked, confused.
"Yes... As a matter of fact she was the waitress that have John her number."
I burst out laughing, pulling my hand away from his to cover my mouth.
"What??" Cried Alexander as I laid back against the ruff carpet.
"John is gay," I breathed pulling my arms behind my head.
"Really?" I noted that Alexander sounded quite hopeful.
"Yes dude. There's no way he's dating a girl. He's like... beyond gay."
"Oh... Then... Oh." Alexander breathed a sigh of what I decided was relief and collapsed beside me, on his side his eyes closed and a faint smile lying on his lips.
I laughed again making him open his eyes again.
"You like him," I teased.
Alexander blushed then covered his face with his arms.
"Lies!" He cried.
I laughed again and sat up. "You should tell him."
Alexander shook his head.
"Why not?"
"Cause what if he doesn't like me back!" Alexander said stretching his arms out at his sides.
I paused for a moment remembering that Alexander hadn't been apart of our little texting thing.
"Well... You'll never know until you try."
He nodded, "Yah... I guess you're right..."
I stood up, stretching. "Well I've got a book to get back to. Wanna come?"
Alexander shrugged and took the hand I had offered him. "I'll walk with you but after we get there I'm gonna go..."
"Okay." I smiled and we walked back in silence.John pov
I took long strides as I looked for Alex.
Eventually I noticed the library and sighed. He must've gone in there! It's hardly ever full and I would've gone there.
I opened the door and looked around, immediately spotting Aaron sitting at his own table flipping through a book.
I strode over and talked his shoulder.
He looked up. "Hey John... What is it?"
I bit my lip and straightened ((I think the correct term is gaytened but whatever)), "Have you seen Alex?"
Burr nodded, "You just missed him."
"Damn... Which way-" "To the left, if you hurry you might catch him."
I smiled and turned whispering thanks as I ran out, then I turned down the hall. Immediately I ran into someone too tall to be Alex.
"Ow," they complaining turning around, unfortunately I recognized their voice, and then their face.
Thomas fucking Jefferson.
Shit.
I rubbed my forehead. "Sorry man."
He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. I noticed that his nose was badly bruised and my hand traveled up to my still sore eye, it wasn't as bad as before. Good enough for Alex to let me go to school without holding peas to my eye. (They were in my backpack instead)
"For..?" He urged me on with a wave of his hand.
I dropped my head. "For both, I... I'm sorry for bumping into you and I'm sorry for getting into a fight with you..." I lifted my head back up and rubbed my neck. "It was a bad day, and I know that doesn't excuse it... But... It was."
He sighed and uncrossed his arms. "Well I guess I can't stay mad forever. And James would kick my ass for it if I tried."
He held out his hand and I shook it.
"You're pretentious," I informed him.
"And you're an ugly mess," he countered.
"Ah, the mess part is true," I laughed stepping back. I turned to walk away then paused. "Uh, you haven't happened to see Alex anywhere have you?"
He snorted, "Are you dating?"
"What?! No! I just want to know if you've seen him around!!"
Thomas rolled his eyes, "U-huh. I saw him a few minutes ago. Down the hall, to the left-not down another hall-to the left John."
I nodded and turned around and started running down the hall.
