Chapter 14, where there's John's dad

Thank y'all for 2,685 reads!!! I actually can not believe that this has so many!! XD
So as I've realized, I haven't mentioned when John's dad was coming, so just so y'all know this is happening a few days after the last chapter!!

John pov

I collapsed onto the couch with a sigh.
"5 hours until my dad arrives. Assuming he isn't early, which he always is."
Alex sat next to me and pet my knee. "Don't worry, everything will be fine."
"Easy for you to say, your homophobic dad isn't coming over to try and get you to get together with a girl."
Alex nodded, "True."
I groaned and rolled over onto my side, my head in my arms.
"Hey" Alex rubbed my knee in soothing circles "I'm here John, helping you. We're doing this together, remember?"
I sat up a smile playing across my lips. "Yah," I giggled. "As boyfriends."
Alex smiled and pulled me into a hug. "Yesirey, and I'm going to be the best boyfriend ever."
I laughed, "You're such a nerd Alexander."
He pulled back, his cheeks rosy. "I do my best."
I slightly punched his arm, blushing as well. "As if you have to try."
He snickered leaning back. "True."
There was a moment of silence and then I had a realisation.
"Alex we haven't practiced kissing yet," I blurted out.
Alex's face went an alarming shade of red.
"You're right, we uh... We haven't," he stuttered, looking down.
I coughed, to hide my embarrassment. "We've practiced everything else, but he'd probably get suspicious if we didn't kiss. And I personally don't want to have our first kiss in front of him. Of course, if you're uncomfortable with it then-"
"No," Alex interrupted. "No, I think we should."

The doorbell rang and I hopped up to answer it.
Alex got up as well, but stood back.
I opened the door, a smile plastered on my face. "Hey dad."
He smiled dryly, "Hello John."
"So, early as always."
He shrugged. "Early is on time, on time is late, and if you're late don't even bother showing up."
I turned away, letting him in and mumbled, "If only you were late."
Alex coughed and waved awkwardly. "Hello sir."
I slid to Alex's side, a smile settling itself on my face.
My dad cocked his head to the side. "You're roommate I assume?"
"Actually, uh, dad," I took Alex's hand and he squeezed it encouragingly. "This is Alexander Hamilton, my... Boyfriend."
Alex let out a soft breath and I glanced at him to see a small almost shy smile.
My dad straightened himself, frowning disapprovingly.
I bit my lip as Alex said, "That's why John didn't want you to come or try and get him together with that girl. We're dating."
John's father crossed his arms and walked past us onto the couch.
Alex sat down on the other side of it as I closed the door, I took a deep breath after it clicked shut and sat down in between them.
"Sooo...." Alex took my hand again, I tried to catch his eye but he was looking down. "What are you thinking?"
Dad cleared his throat. "That you boys are crazy."
My face fell.
"I'd still like to go out to dinner with you."
And so did my heart.
"...and Mr. Hamilton, if you so insist."
Alex looked up and grabbed my hand with his other hand as well.
I glanced at him, grinning. I took a moment to appreciate the sparkle in his eyes before turning back to my dad.
"I'd like that-we'd like that," I corrected myself, a giddy feeling bubbling up inside me. Was my dad... Accepting me? After all this time?
"Okay. Good." He stood up. "I'm staying at a hotel. Be ready in two hours" he means one "I'll pick you guys up."
We nodded and with that he left.
After he was gone I jumped up, pulling Alex up with me.
"We did it!!" I laughed, his hands in mine.
Alex laughed and hopped. "We did!!! We really did!!!"
I pulled him into a tight hug. "Thank you so so so so much Alexander!!"
He giggled, hugging me back. "Anytime," he whispered.
We pulled apart, far too soon in my opinion, and I wiped at my eyes.
Alex smiled again, "Are you crying?"
I blushed, looking down. "No."
He laughed and pulled me back into a hug. "Oh shut up. I don't mind, your dad might just be accepting you. It's a good reason to cry."
I giggled with a sniff and leaned into his shoulder. "Thank you."
He pulled away with a nervous laugh, "Yah, anytime dude. Now go blow your nose I like this shirt."
I raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

Time skip!
Alex pov

The car ride to the restaurant was filled with painfully awkward silence.
And when we got there and sat down it hardly got better.
After a while John stood up and said he had to go to the bathroom.
He leaned down to me and asked if I was okay here alone to which I nodded. He smiled and kissed me, it was short, really just a peck, but it left me smiling what was sure to be a stupid grin.
I turned back to my food and took a bite.
"So, Mr. Hamilton-"
I held up a finger and swallowed. "Oh please sir, call me Alexander."
Mr. Laurens nodded, "Fine. Alexander, do you love my John? Really, really love him?"
I set down my fork and looked down. I coughed.
"It's okay, you can take a moment, it's something that you should think about anyway."
After another moment I sighed and looked up. "To be entirely honest sir, yes. Yes I do."
"Will you break his heart?"
I shook my head and brushed my hair out of my face, slightly regretting that I had left it down.
"No, I really hope not."
He nodded and looked down, breaking our eye contact. "Does... Does my boy make you happy?"
I felt a smile tug at the corners of my mouth. "More than anything."
I sighed, still smiling. "And I'm trying very hard to make him just as happy."
Mr. Laurens lifted his head and looked me in the eyes.
"Okay," he said and that was that.
John sat back down next to me and squeezed my hand. "Everything alright?"
I looked at him smiling. "Everything is great love."
He smiled and went back to his food, as food the other two of us.
When we finished Mr. Laurens paid and drove us home. He didn't want to walk all the way up the stairs again so we said our goodbyes outside the building.
John headed up and I was about to follow him when Mr. Laurens grabbed my arm.
"Hey," he said with a tight lipped smile. "Be good to him."
"I will," I said with a small nod and then I caught up to John.
