[16] "Leanne! How are you?" We were making our way out of the pack house when Diego's mother sol greeted me and pulled me into a hug. "Your mother told me you went to the doctor yesterday, are you okay?"
I wanted to curse at my mom but I knew that she didn't do it on purpose or maybe well. I ignored Diego's stare and gulped down slowly as I plastered a fake smile. "Yes, just a...I, ohm, it's that, I...you know, I." Think fast, think fast, think fast. "Food poisoning!" I shouted a bit too much and cleared my throat, "I mean, I had food poisoning, you know me, food is life. I can't stop eating, I love to eat." Okay Leanne, you talk too much.
"Yes, I'm glad you're okay though." She said really concerned and worried as she gave my hands a squeeze. "You need to start eating healthier, food poisoning can be really dangerous, I was worried when your mother told me."
"I will, thank you." I gave her a squeeze back and hugged her again. "Thanks for the concern." I pulled away from her and gave her a smile as I turned to look at Diego who had a questioning look on his face. "Ready to go?" I asked instead and looked as he nodded with a sigh. "We still need to talk." I cursed underneath my breath at that for thinking I was safe and nodded in defeat.
We walked out of the pack house and to the kids center, Miranda already waiting for us. "I guess you finally saw Dido." Hannah nodded eagerly and hugged Diego as she leaned her head on his shoulder.
If Diego and I didn't take that one year apart, Hannah would have been our daughter by now. "Sorry." My eyes filled with tears suddenly emotional all of sudden. I cupped my mouth with a shaky hand and suppressed the sobs from escaping my mouth. "I need some time."
I turned around and walked out of the kids center, wiping the tears running down my cheeks. Hannah's parents died when she was only a baby. Diego and I were running in the woods when we came across two dead bodies, a woman and a man.
They were both dead when we found them, blood all over them. I remember the look on our faces when we found Hannah. Something just clicked, it was as if she was ours. We were young at the time so Miranda took her in.
I remember how we came visit her every day, shower her with love and gifts. We had planned to adopt her and everything, we celebrated her first birthday and second birthday. After that things started to get rockier between us and we finally broke it off, losing the chance to adopt her.
I sniffed loudly and slid my hand in my pocket when my phone rang, sliding it to talk. "Leanne is Doctor Jane. Your results came in this morning, I know you go every Saturday to the kids center that's why I didn't call you sooner."
"Tell me Jane, what does the results say?" I asked her shakily as I gripped the phone and breathed in and out, my chest moving up and down heavily. "You're pregnant Leanne." When she said those words my phone slid out of my hands and I slowly turned around when I felt someone behind me, looking up with still perplexed eyes at Diego.
"Who are you talking to?" At the realization, everything came crashing down to me as I processed it all. I'm pregnant. "Leane, Leanne!" At that, my eyes rolled back as I fainted into Diego's arms. I was going to be a mother.

The sting of alcohol lingering underneath my nose and mutterings in the background made me jolt from the bed, yanking the person with the alcohol in her hand away from my face. "You finally woke up, it took us a while to make you wake up." Miranda said as she helped me sat up. "Are you okay?"
"Yes. I feel better now." I respond back as I accommodated myself on the bed I was on, closing my eyes for a second. Leanne, you're pregnant My eyes snapped open at that and I groaned loudly, brushing my hands down my hair.
