I had a limosine prepared to pick her up at eigh-o-clock but as I came knocking on her door wearing my finest suit, she curled her lip upwards in disgust. She said, "You don't need to dazzle me with all your expensive and fancy things, you know. After all I am a lawyer, I make enough money on my own to impress myself. You don't need to do it for me." I lowered my head in disappointment.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I replied. She morphed into a look of sadness, she felt bad that she had hurt my feelings.
"Don't be sorry, we just haven't gotten the time to get to know eachother! I know the perfect oppurtunity to talk. The theatre isn't that far from my place, just a couple blocks. So why don't we walk there, we can get some excersize and get to know eachother." She smiled, I pretended to be happy with my mistake, and then we were off.
We walked along the sidewalk like a drunken couple lost, struggling to find their way home. But we weren't drunk (yet), and we weren't lost (yet.)
"So...what's your favorite food?" Liz asked me as we paced down the street.
"Does ice cream count? Because I enjoy eating that most out of anything on this planet." She giggled at this comment.
"Rocky Road or Mint Chocolate Chip?" She fired this question at me like it was life or death.
"I'm more of a neopolitan kind of guy if you ask me." This time it was my turn to shy away as I laughed at myself.
"Cool, cool..." She trailed off. I stuffed my hands into my pockets. They were sweating, it was a bad habit I got - especially whenever I was nervous.
"Okay here's an important question, are you Jewish?" She asked. I didn't know how to answer this at first, because religion is a very touchy subject around people.
"Uh...I'm not very religious at all, like, I'm an atheist..." It was true, I liked to have the proven facts on everything. It didn't matter to me if it was an unpopular opinion, as long as it was factual and had a scientific explanation that I could understand, then I would believe that.
"Well, around my parents you're Jewish." She cackled this time, yet she had managed to still be attractive when she did that.
"Why?" It was my turn for questioning.
"My parents are very...headstrong and stubborn, to say the least. They don't like anyone that isn't exactly like them. Don't worry, it's just a minor setback that we can easily avoid, if this relationship progesses far enough into you meeting my parents, of course." Liz sure did like to ramble, but I was perfectly fine with that. I didn't like to do much socializing and talking myself, I liked to listen to others and hear what they had to say.
"Oh, um, yeah, sure. I don't see why that would be so difficult. I am Atheist everywhere except for around your parents, when I'm around them, I am Jewish. Yes, this won't be a problem at all." My expression in this sentence was articulated so carefully, so Liz had no clue if I was truly being serious, or if I was being a sarcastic jerk.
"Well, it was nice talking. But we have arrived at the theatre, and during the movie there will be no talking," she frowned, "I hate it when people talk during the movie, there is a special place in hell reserved for them"
"True." I said, it was the only response my feeble mind could think of.
We marched into the theatre with expectations high and smiles smeared across our faces. We sat down, holding hands and casually drank our soda and ate our popcorn as the movie began.
Liz may have mentioned that we weren't going to be doing much talking during the movie. But do you want to know what there was room for?
Lots and lots of kissing.
