We need to hide!" Scarlet whisper-shouted. She and Lucas risen behind one of the stable doors and held on to each other as their hearts raced. The horses were getting uneasy as the men entered. They heard their murmurs as the horses whinnied and snorted. "Will you shut them up!" The leader shouted "they'll blow our cover!" A gun clicked, "Alrighty, boss." Scarlet's heart skipped a beat, Nightshade! "Lucas!" She whispered "we have to do something or they'll kill my horse!" Lucas nodded and looked past the door. Then, all in an instant, he grabbed the shotgun and bolted for the men.
It wasn't what Scarlet expected, it was stupid, but she couldn't think straight. All she was focused on was getting the horses out. She hoped their stables and they sprinted out the door and into the fields. Then rejoined Lucas, "Nobody move!" He says. The men laughed, "Put the gun down, boy." The boss chuckled "Don't do anything stupid." Scarlet wrapped her arm around his, "Lucas, it's okay." Lucas stood his ground "Just put it down!" She cried. He tightened his grip on the trigger. "No!"
The man fired, barely missing Lucas's ear, he shrieked in pain. The bullet blazed the tip and the pain was almost unbearable. He collapsed to the ground and Scarlet snatched the gun from his hands. "Don't you even try." Scarlet was frightened, but she couldn't let them know that, "You were gonna kill my horse." The boss snickered "Leave my farm." He took a step forward, "First you give us what we came here for." She tightened her grip on the shotgun, "Never."
He shrugged, "Fine." He motioned to the other man and a shot was fired, only it wasn't from the man. They turned to face Ed. He was holding a different shotgun and it was facing the air, he reloaded and pointed it towards them, "That was a warning shot." He creeper closer to them, "Get away from my great-niece." The men looked at Ed, then Scarlet, then at Lucas. They gave a look of anger and hate before leaving.
Scarlet put the gun down and rushed to Lucas, "Are you okay?" He was holding his ear, "My ears are running, but I'll survive." Ed checked one last time if the men were fine before approaching them, "You have thirty seconds to explain to me why your not on a plane and why there were two strangers in my farm!"
"Well, Ed..." began Scarlet "Its kind of a long story."
