Scarlet was back inside the men's truck, gagged. She couldn't comprehend any logical reason as to why the men needed and/or wanted her there so badly. Was it because she was the protector? Was it because she might be a shield to them getting what they want? She couldn't wrap her mind around it
Tears fought to exit her eyes, but she didn't have to fight back for them to keep from falling. She just couldn't cry, her brain was too busy being off elsewhere. She didn't try to escape, she just sat there, defeated.
Once the truck stopped, the back of the truck rolled open and they drug her out, dumping her on the ground. She grunted, "What do you want from me?" she asks, fragily.
The boss chortles, "You know why, girl."
Scarlet struggles to shake her head, "No, I-I don't."
He hold up the diary, "It's all in here."
Scarlet pants, "I didn't... I didn't get that far. Honest."
The boss squatted down beside her, "I don't believe you."
"Please," she begged "Just let me go!"
The boss looked at his companions, "Why would I do that, exactly?"
Scarlet ignored the question, "What do you want from me?"
"I want the real stones." he replied.
"No," Scarlet retorted, frankly.
He snickered, "Well then... we have ways to make you cooperate."
Scarlet's eyes bulged, "What? What are you going to do?" He began walking away, "You'll see." And with that, he left two of the men there to guard her as he walked away with the others. Scarlet hung her head, she had been beaten. She had to give in, no matter how much she wanted to fight back, she just couldn't.
It had been a while of her just sitting there when the sun started to rise. She was exhausted. Suddenly, she heard a faint, "Psst," in the distance. She flung her head up, searching for the source of the noise. A head popped up slightly from behind a bush, it was Lucas. And her great aunt and uncle.
She wanted to gasp with joy, but she knew that that would blow their cover, so she stayed silent. When Lucas and Scarlet were younger, they were taught sign language. She was a little rusty, but she understood what he was saying. Lucas was tied up, but as soon as it was safe, he called for Ed and Anne. They untied him, and he rushed to the pickup truck, explaining the situation on the way. They followed Scarlet and her kidnappers.
Scarlet was overjoyed, but that soon ended as the boss came back. She remained in character. "Give us the stones or else," Scarlet challenged him, "Or else what?" He put his lips beside her ear, "Or else... we'll go after your family." Scarlet's jaw dropped.
"You have ten seconds to decide." He says getting up and crossing his arms.
"Ten..."
Scarlet didn't know what to do.
"Nine..."
She couldn't just give up the stones.
"Eight..."
Otherwise the world would parish.
"Seven..."
But if she didn't, her family would parish.
"Six..."
Her mind was racing.
"Five..."
She glanced over to the bushes.
"Four..."
All they were doing was shaking their heads.
"Three..."
She didn't know what that meant.
"Two..."
She took a deep breath.
"One!"
"Alright!" she shouted. "I'll give you the stones!"
A.N/ :O What's gonna happen... lol. If I get 10 votes, I'll double update next time. :)
