Landons POV

Finally the day had come. I stood before the elders to receive my assignment. They explained that I would be sent to a place called Arizona. I was told that when I saw her I would know, that my very being was connected to hers in a way that could not be erased. They told me that I must use everything I had ever learned to train her, protect her, and strengthen her. They warned me that I would have to explain, and convince her to return with me.  And then they uttered a single word that would change me forever.

      Allison.

The name repeated over and over in my head.

I didn’t know anything about her. I couldn’t say what color hair she had, or if she was tall or fat. I didn’t even know her last name. My whole life I had dreamed of which person on the vast estate I would be paired with. I imagined what it would be like to be sent into the world of normals. My life was an endless day of training. Every day was spent learning to be the guard that they required me to be. Now my real journey was about to begin, and I couldn’t be more terrified.

Two days later I arrived in snowflake, with a bag of cash and the name of Allison’s school written on a scrap of wrinkled paper. My heart raced as I walked up the steps and into the small high school. With a smile on my face I made my way to the front office.

“Hello. May I help you?” The old lady at the front desk said.

“Ummm. Yes? I’m a new student here…” I wasn’t sure what to say, so I trailed off into awkwardness.

“hmm.” The desk lady murmured. “Landon?”

“That’s me.” I answered with a smile. I didn’t think anyone would be expecting me, but I guess the elders had already enrolled me. The printer buzzed to life and spit out a single pink-colored paper. The office lady reached over and plucked the paper from its tray.

“This is your schedule. Second period started-” She checked her watch “fifteen minutes ago. Just head down that hall until you reach the last door. I’m Mrs. Taylor by the way. If you need anything feel free to ask. We are so pleased to have you at our lovely school.” She smiled as if she were my grandmother and sent me on my way.

The classroom wasn’t hard to find. Last door, just like Mrs. Taylor had said. With a deep breath I turned the handle and walked inside. I got the strangest feeling. Almost like my body knew something and wasn’t telling my mind. I looked around the room and locked eyes with a girl. She had startling red hair and stunning green eyes. I felt like I wasn’t seeing her for the first time. This was her. The person that would decide my fate.

Allison.
