Within the hour Allison could sustain magic. I could set her hand on fire then walk away and she could keep the blaze burning on her palm. We even set her hair on fire, which was both amazing and absolutely terrifying. The warm colors of the flame mixed perfectly with her red hair. It lit her face in an orange light that made her look both terrifying and mesmerizing.
I heard a car door closing outside of Allison’s living room window. Crap. I thought. That must mean that Alli’s dad was home. What would he think when he walked in to find me here.
I didn’t have time to think up an escape plan before he opened the front door and called, “Alli I’m ho-“ He stopped short when he noticed me. “Oh. Hello”
“Umm. H-Hi. Sir”
“There’s no need for the sir son. I know what you are. More importantly I know Who you are. Call me Allen.”
“I-I I don’t know what you mean sir-“
“Don’t play stupid boy. I could feel the magic you were using before I even got out of the car. You came to take my daughter to the Lab didn’t you?”
“Yes si- Allen” I said. It took me a moment to realize that he had said ‘Lab’. He didn’t say the estate, or the Institute of Magi. He called it the Lab, which was a slang term used only by students. He must have gone there at one point or there was no way he would’ve known the slang.
“You were a student once weren’t you?”
He looked me straight in the eyes and said “Yes. I was.”
Yeahhhhhh. Its short. Oops. I have been extremely busy with rehersals, and homework, and Latin club (Yes it is as nerdy as it sounds) I will try to update more often I promise!
