I had to wait for three months now to get in the school where my grandma lived since it was still the holidays. I had never gone through a worse situation in my life. I was sure i would die of boredom. And now Anna's cries and screaming were getting into my last nerve. The following month was mom's 39th birthday. I had to do something.
It was summer time. There were two whole months of holidays! And i was sitting here like a dead seal. I had downloaded Skype in order to chat with Kate. Nana had advised me to get out of the house, go shopping, make new friends or maybe get a small job. I wasn't interested in any of those things but I had to do it ( i don't wanna die of boredom or anything)
So i decided to explore the place where we were staying. I thought maybe that would have been interesting. As i reached there i told to myself
"Its okay Emma, you can do it, Just go make some friends, maybe start by saying a hi"
The people there didn't look friendly at all. I decided to go to a nearby park. Honestly i made a lot of efforts to make a friend but none of them were interested.Great, now i probably looked needy. I missed my mom. I wish she were here. She's probably looking down at me and is ashamed of me right now. I was exhausted. So i went and sat on a bench. I buried my face in my hands. I was hopeless. what was the use if i tried, i would still miss my mom.
That was when i felt someone move near me.
I looked up to see who it was.
I know what you're thinking but no, it was not a boy.
It was a girl. She was thin and had long blonde hair. She had blue eyes and looked really pretty. I thought i had see her before, must have been my imagination. She was smiling at me. I didn't know why. She said "You're Emma right?". I was surprised, How did she know me. I had never seen or spoken to her in my life( i think). "Yeah, wait, how the hell do you know me?" "I know your grandmother, we are neighbors. We've been neighbors for 4 years i think. I'm Lily by the way"she said shaking my hand. I didn't show much happiness or excitement outside, but in my heart i was dancing with joy. I had made a friend. Well, kind of. I mean she came to me but yeah, same thing.
We spent the entire day in the park, walking around, talking about ourselves, talking about our hopes and dreams, laughing and sitting on the swings. For the first time in a week, i felt happy and relaxed. For one whole day i forgot about my mom. I didn't tell Lily anything about her her. I didn't want her to know anything in case she acted differently with me and i knew i would cry if i talked about it. When it was 7 in the evening we decided to get back home (or else nana would think i had killed myself). Before getting in I hugged her and told her, " I'm glad i made a friend Lily, seriously, I just got here a week ago and I have been having personal problems. You made me forget all of that for one day. Thanks." "I've been having a bad time too Emma, i understand. I am really happy we met. Hey, maybe you wanna come for dinner tomorrow at my house?""Yeah. sure" and we parted ways.
As i got in, Nana asked me all that happened that day, I told her about how i had met Lily and how i had a lot of fun. She said she was very proud of me. The truth is, i was proud of myself too.
When i had met Lily, i had a feeling that she would be with me forever. I didn't know why but i still remember and treasure every moment i spent with her.
