Brian tipped the waitress and we walked out of the diner. I gazed longingly at my dead car as we arrived at Brian's incredible one.
He clicked a button on his keychain and both doors opened simultaneously. I climbed in gingerly, marvelling once again at its luxurious beauty.
I expected Brian to climb in as well, only he walked past the car to the tow truck driver. I turned my body around to curiously look out the back window. He arrived at the truck, where the driver rolled down his window. The poor guy seemed incredibly annoyed. Brian took out his wallet and handed him a Liam, and the guy suddenly smiled wide at him. They exchanged a few words before they pounded fists and Brian was walking back towards the car again.
Chloe, what the hell are you doing, I thought as I turned around. What are you doing? What is going on? Why are you here? Why the hell aren't you home in your cozy bed right now? Brian Villamor, Chloe? REALLY? Brian freaking Villamor, who pulls money out of thin air. Brian Villamor, who is the complete polar opposite of everything you are. What ARE YOU DOING?
He climbed in gracefully, immediately disrupting my thoughts. He turned towards me and smiled.
"Ready?"
I smiled slightly. He started the engine and started tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, apparently to some silent beat in his head.
He pulled out of the parking space and then the plaza, the tow-truck driving quickly following suite. I watched the tow-truck follow us down the street in the side mirror.
"So what's it like?" I asked, absentminded.
He glanced at me. "What's what like?"
Being able to pull money out of thin air.
I stared out the window, keeping my mouth shut. It was a bad idea to say something like that.
"Uh..." I replied, trying to quickly think of a filler question, "What's it like...um...driving a car?"
He laughed. "Chloe, you'll have your car soon enough. Relax."
"So, what?"
"What, what?"
"What?"
He chuckled. "Chloe, what's your question?"
"It's not a question. I'm just telling you that you're not fixing my car. You'll leave it at my dorm and I'll figure it out."
He groaned. "Chloe, just let me fix your car."
"Brian, it's really nice but-"
"Listen, I don't mind. I enjoy fixing vehicles. I fix my bike and tinker with my cars all the time. Not to mention that you're going to save a lot of money."
I chewed on my lip. Then chewed on it some more. Cracked a couple knuckles, refusing to acknowledge the panic setting in. Although I had already said okay back at the diner, I hadn't specified what I said okay about. I didn't think I knew what I had agreed to.
I let out a breath. "Okay. Fine."
"You're agreeing?"
I rolled my eyes. "Yes. You win. Happy now?"
He laughed, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. "Yes, Chloe, how kind of you to let me fix your car."
I sighed. "Anyways." I muttered, ruffling my hair. I watched the trees zoom past us from the window, thinking about how hard the next couple of days were going to be. Still looking out the window, I asked, "How long is it going to take?"
