Chapter One- Preparing for Departure

Katherine Marie Prewett had woken at a god-forsaken time this morning, thanks to her delightful cousins Fred and George Weasley. They had surged into her and Ginny's room screaming and yelling about Hogwarts and Diagon Alley and letters.
Of course, as soon as this registered in the young ladies' minds, they rushed down the many flights of stairs to the kitchen and dining room. Molly Weasley was half-way finished making breakfast, using magic nonetheless, and had every letter placed neatly in front of each chair for every child that got one. She had just finished setting the table when all 6 children had finally made their way downstairs.

"Your father will be back in a few minutes my dears, then we can all go to Diagon Alley to buy what we must for this year!" Molly said over the excited squabbles.

"Kat, what all do you have to buy?" Ginny asked, only a bit sad that she was the only one not going to Hogwarts this year.

"It's honestly a bunch of books if that makes you feel better." Kat gave a sympathetic smile then had an idea. "You know, you can always write to me and Ron! I promise to always write back."

"Thanks Kat, it's just unfortunate that I'll be here alone this year." Ginny said glumly. "But I am excited for you! Think of all the fun you'll have!" 'And I won't.' Ginny silently added.

"Thank you, and I really am sorry. Tell you what, we can pull one last prank on Percy before I leave and you won't get in trouble!" Kat had already started planning the prank.

"Sounds perfect, tell me about it when we go back up to the room." Ginny proceeded to eat her breakfast once it was put on the table, as did everyone else.

"Good morning Weasleys!" Arthur Weasley shouted after he walked into the dining room/kitchen.

"Good morning dad!" All of his children responded. "Good morning Uncle Arthur!" Kat had said instead, after everyone else.

"Good morning, Kat! Lucky day for you an' Ron now, isn't it? Even more so, you can now use your vault in Gringotts!" Arthur reminded her.

"Arthur, is that the most important thing on your mind?" Molly raised an eyebrow at him. "Where will we go first today, dears? We can split into two groups if we must."

"Mum, we have to go to Gambol and Japes! They just got a new order of... stuff." George kept quiet about what he and Fred were going to buy.

"Well, I for one just want to get to Flourish and Blotts, and early if we can." Percy gave a pointed look at the twins.

"Well, I actually do want to go to Gringotts but I can do that myself and catch up with whoever is going to Ollivander's." Kat spoke up.

"Nonsense dear! Ron, Ginny, and Arthur will accompany you to Gringotts. I don't want to lose you before you can even get to Hogwarts!" Molly gave her warmest smile and looked at her husband to make sure he would do so.

"Of course, and I don't want you to lose your key so I'll hold onto it until we get there." Arthur said, holding such key in the air.

"Now, finish eating and go get ready so we can get going!"

––——————————––

Kat walked into Gringotts fully expecting... well, not this. Plenty of goblins lined up at desks on each side of the room, none of which looking up whenever anybody entered the room.

"Name?" A goblin at the front desk asked, not even looking up.

"Katherine Prewett." That got his attention apparently.

"Key?" He eyed her suspiciously to make sure she was indeed who she said she was.
Arthur put the key on the desk and told the goblin that he was her legal guardian.

"Follow me." The goblin told the group, and lead them through a door and to a mine cart behind the wall.
After getting to the vault and grabbing the money she thought necessary, she left the vault to go through the horrible trip back.

"Everyone excited for Ollivander's?" Arthur asked as the group made their way outside again.

"Absolutely, I'm ready for my first wand! I've waited forever to get it," Ron exclaimed, walking a bit faster.

"I'll beat you there," Kat yelled, starting to run towards the shop.

"I knew it would happen eventually," Arthur sighed, turning to Ginny as Ron ran after Kat.
