Your POV
"Hey, (Y/N)! Where's your mind getting to?!" You jump about three feet and look up to see your best friend, Lauren, looking at you, electric-green streaked black hair dangling over her face. Her eyes match the streaks in her hair, with some help from colored contacts.
"Chill, Lauren," you reply. "I'm just tired."
"Then I'll drive you home! You've got work tomorrow, and I'm not gonna be the one keeping you up!"
You nod. "I'd appreciate that. Thanks."
You wave goodbye to your friend from your door. She waves back from the car, yelling for you to take care and all that stuff. You smirk and shake your head as the bright orange-and-green car pulls away. Lauren had never really cared what others thought of her. If she felt like it, she'd dye her skin purple and not hear a word from anyone else. You'd always admired her for her self-assuredness.
You drop your bag on the rack by the door and enter the small kitchen. The coziness of the smallish house comforts you. 'Ish'... That's a good word. Not entirely certain. It suits you. You were a very 'ish' person.
You open the fridge and check for munchies. There's half a cold pizza. You don't remember ordering it, but the note on the top says it's from this week. You shrug and eat a slice. Then you duck into your room and sit on your bed, pulling your laptop down from its shelf by your bed. You open (your browser) and click YouTube. You find yourself giggling at some of your favorite videos when some loud banging noises come from above you.
Someone swears loudly, several loud crashes, and silence. You sigh. Your upstairs neighbor moved away about a week ago, and the new person was either really clumsy or liked to throw large, heavy objects.
You notice a message on Skype from your mom, so you send her a call.
"(Y/N)! Good to hear from you, sweetie!"
"Hi, mom," you say, smiling slightly at her enthusiasm as you brush your fingers through your (h/l), (h/c) hair.
Hearing the tired note in your voice, she asks you, concerned, "Are you alright, (Y/N)?"
You nod, then remember your webcam is broken. "I'm fine, mom. Just a little tired. It's nearly midnight here."
A moment of silence passes, then your mom replies, "Goodness, you're right! I'm sorry, I'm still not used to the idea of you being on the other side of the country. Over here, it's only nine-ish."
You smile at that familiar 'ish' sound. Then another loud crash and more swearing overhead, making you flinch.
"What was that?" your mom asks, concerned.
"My new neighbor is apparently an elephant," you reply. "There's a lot of crashing going on up there."
"We can find you a different place..."
You shake your head, then remember. Webcam. Right. "No, it's fine. I'm starting to get used to it, anyway."
She laughs, saying, "(Y/N), if you could sleep through nights back at our house, I'm sure you could sleep through anything!"
"Yeah, true enough. Well, talk to you later?"
"Sure, sweetie. Get some sleep."
You end the call and switch back to YouTube. You watch pretty much anyone suggested to you these days. Lately, you've been watching this guy a lot. His commentaries always made you laugh until you looked like an insane seal.
You watch the second half of the let's play you started earlier. The game is some horror story you haven't played yet, with a lot of jumpscares. It's fun to watch, and you're surprised when he does his outro and the vid ends.
You place your laptop back on its shelf, done with online for the night. You look at the clock. Twelve thirty?! How did it get so late?!
You sigh a little, quickly changing to your favorite (f/c) PJ's and flicking the light off. You really need your sleep. The window above your bed catches your attention, the moon is really bright tonight. You look at it, feeling sleepy. Then you reach out and open the window. There isn't a screen, so you can lean out to see better. Before you have time to think about it, you pull yourself over the window sill-
-and fly.
You laugh as the cold night air sweeps against your face, tossing your hair all over the place. It's just so exhilarating, being so high, with the wind in your face.
After a minute, though, you begin to feel lonely. It's amazing up in the sky, the stars close enough to touch, but it's empty. You want to share it with someone, but there's no one to share it with.
Just you and the stars.
You open your eyes to find yourself back in your bed, tucked comfortably under the covers. "That dream again?" you ask yourself as you get dressed in your favorite t-shirt and a pair of paint-stained jeans. You've been having this recurring dream for about a week now.
Your cell buzzes from its station on your nightstand. You check the caller ID - it's Lauren.
You take the call, putting the phone to your ear. "Yellow?"
"(Y/N)! What you doing, sistah?! You didn't text me!" You jump as she yells at the top of her voice.
"Chill, girl, I just woke up!" you say, laughing.
"Whaaa? It's ten, girl, get your lazy rear moving!"
"Well, I was up until midnight with my crazy peeps."
"Whoop, forgot. Sorry, girl."
"It's cool, Lauren. See ya after work?"
"Of course! Text me then!"
You hang up, feeling tired. How on earth does she have so much energy? And how did you sleep so late? Then you look at the clock. "Crap." Speaking of late.
You run out the door, just making it to the bus stop before your bus pulls away.
???'s POV
I watch through the curtains as some girl runs to catch her bus. She lives in the apartment beneath me, I remember. Well, it's not as though I know her. The building owner pointed her out, but that's about all.
And that's fine with me.
"Hey, buddy, you still there?" Someone calls from the laptop.
I turn back to my Skype. "Yeah, just spacing. Hey, I've got to go soon, call you back later?"
"Sure, whenever you feel like it." I close the laptop and head toward the door, grabbing my jacket as I go. Then I head out in the hopes of actually getting stuff done this time.
