Cry’s POV
I breathe a sigh of relief as I exit the building. No more class today, whew. As I begin to descend the steps, I notice someone familiar leaning against the barrier with a very annoyed expression.
“(Y/N)? Why are you still here?”
She looks up, startled, then relaxes. “Oh, hey, Cry. Well, Lauren ditched me when I went to the bathroom, so I’m stuck here until the next bus gets here. So, another half an hour or so.”
I nod sympathetically. “Wow. She didn’t seem the type to pull something like that.”
“She’s not, really. Maybe she didn’t realize I’d be stuck here. Her phone’s off, though.”
“That sucks.” I think for a moment. “Well, I’m going straight home from here, you can join me.”
She nods without hesitating. “Thanks. I really appreciate it.”
“So how long have you two been friends?” I ask as I swerve through traffic.
“Um... since around my junior year in high school. We had a lot of the same dreams, so we became friends.”
“Oh. So you ended up going to the same college?”
“Yeah, we had the same dream college and everything.” She laughs. “It’s crazy how alike we are, really.”
“It really is. Anyway, here we are.” I park the car outside and we walk over to the building. “Well, nice seeing you.” I turn to go upstairs, but she stops me.
“Wait.” I turn back toward her. She’s shifting her weight nervously, looking at her shoes. “I... I wanted to thank you. For helping get rid of Kyle.
I shrug. “Any decent person would have,” I point out. “He was clearly not a very nice guy, to put it politely.”
She nods, still looking down. “Yeah, but I still appreciate it. I just wanted to say that.” And with that, she steps forward and wraps her arms around me. I stand there for a moment, stunned, then hug her back. She pulls back before long. “S-see you later, Cry.” She turns and hurries to her apartment.
I stand there for the next few minutes, grinning like an idiot. Not that anyone would realize. After a while, I notice it’s getting windy, so I go inside where it’s warmer.
I flop on the couch, suddenly drained. I haven’t even done much today. I mean, come on. It’s only one thirty-ish. “I should probably record,” I comment to nobody. But I don’t really want to, so I just lay there and slowly fall asleep.
Before I even realize I’m in the dream world, something hard hits me in the head, knocking me to the floor. “Ow!” I pull myself up to a sitting position.
“You’re going to ruin everything!” I stand quickly and turn to see Elizabeth, that weird little girl, glaring at me.
“What?” Okay, I have no idea what she’s talking about.
She takes a threatening step forward, causing me to step backward, falling into the chair behind me.
She laughs without mirth. “Wow, you’re scared of a little girl. Honestly, though, I can’t figure out what you’re trying to do.”
“What?” Yep, that’s me, broken record.
She glares at me again. “Oh, come on, you can’t be that stupid.” Then her expression suddenly clears. “Unless...”
Without warning, she quickly moves forward and yanks my mask off.
“Wh- Hey!” I cover my face with my arms. She snorts, turning around and tossing the mask over her shoulder at me.
“Ugh. Green eyes. Should have known.” She turns back to face me. I managed to tie my mask back on, but I am seriously ticked at this girl. Seriously, nobody messes with my mask. She smirks. “What, are you mad at me? Come on, it’s a mask. It makes you look ridiculous, by the way.”
“I don’t care,” I say, somehow managing to keep a civil tone. “It’s important to me.”
“Well, what would you have done if I hadn’t given it back?” she asks. Now I’m trying hard not to growl. Seriously, what does my brain think I am? A wolf?
She apparently noticed. “Well, you seem to be leaning toward the right side, so I’m just going to leave you alone.” She nods as though she’s decided something, then tilts her head slightly. “In any case, you should wake up. Your girlfriend is calling.”
I think I would have turned tomato red, but I wake up at that moment. Apparently, feelings in dreams never really carry over physically.
Someone knocks on my door, so I drag myself over and open it to find (Y/N) standing there.
“Hey, Cry. I remember you said you liked that one game, so I was wondering if you’d be interested in playing.” She notices my expression. “Is now a bad time?”
“No, come on in,” I reassure her.
So we sit on the couch and play games for the next few hours.
(A few weeks later)
“Yes!” (Y/N) dropped her controller and threw her hands in the air. “I am victorious!”
“Well, it’s one victory to four ties to how many losses?” I point out.
She shoves me off the couch. “It’s still a victory, and there can’t be a second without a first!”
I laugh as I climb back up. “Okay, whatever. I was just teasing, you know.”
“Yeah, I know.”
(Y/N) and I have been hanging out a lot these past few weeks, mostly playing games at her house or mine. We get together with Pewds and Marzia for some things, and Lauren follows us to others.
“Hey, Cry, are we going to play again or what?”
“Or what.” I turn off the console.
“Awww,” she groans, pouting. I laugh and stand, stretching a bit. “Want to watch a movie?”
“Sure!” Her expression brightens. “What movie?”
I scan the titles on my shelves. “How about this one?” I point out Full Moon at My Lakeside. It sounds really cute, but it’s one of the scariest movies I have ever seen.
She thinks for a moment, then nods. “Sure, why not?”
I stare at her. “You realize I was joking, right? You couldn’t even handle the haunted house!”
She gives me a challenging look. “You’re the one who suggested it, not going to stick to your plan?”
“Alright, alright.” I stick the disk in the player and flop down on the couch next to her. “Just don’t blame me if you can’t take it.”
She sticks her tongue out at me as I hit play. The intro is really cute, a couple going to visit a vacation home. Really, the plot is predictable. I watch it for the effects.
Almost as soon as scary things start happening, (Y/N) starts shrieking at every little thing.
“So, I see you’re taking it well,” I comment, laughing.
“Sh-shut up!” she stammers before shrieking and covering her face with her hands.
I manage not to laugh this time. “Should I turn it off?”
“No, we’ve only seen the start,” she says, straightening. “We should at least get halfway thr-” Scary stuff happens on screen, and she shrieks and ducks again. I wrap my arm around her comfortingly. She looks up briefly, then ducks her head back down.
It’s not a super long movie, but we started watching pretty late. By the time the credits finish, I look down and realize (Y/N) fell asleep on my shoulder. I carefully lay her down on the couch, draping a blanket over her. Once that’s done, I drop onto the smaller couch for the night. Yes, I have a bed, but I don’t use it to sleep much since it’s covered with stuff. Besides, a couch makes a nice bed.
