Cry’s POV

I wake up on the armchair in my living room, still a bit sleepy. (Y/N) notices I’m awake. “So are you actually awake this time?”

“Huh?” I look at her, confused.

“You woke up earlier, but fell asleep again really fast.”

“Oh.” I don’t remember that... I must have been tired. Wait... usually when I’m really tired... “I didn’t say anything... weird, did I?” God, I hope I wasn’t acting like an idiot...

“Well, you insisted I stay here, so I decided to stick around.”

“Is that all?” I’m surprised. Usually I do a lot worse in sleep mode.

“Well, yeah.” I notice her face is slightly pink, which makes me kind of doubt it, but (Y/N) cuts me off just as I’m about to mention it. “So, I wanted to ask about this dream I had last night...”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, it seemed more real than other dreams,” she says. “You were there, and another guy who looked like you, and stuff happened.”

“Well, yeah. Stuff usually happens in the dream realm,” I point out.

“So it’s not just me imagining things.” She looks relieved.

“Of course not, I’ve been going there for years.”

“Well-” she begins, then looks at the clock. “Shoot, I’m gonna miss my bus!” She runs for the door, and I follow. We get outside in time to see the bus pulling away from the curb. She yells a few obscenities after it, then turns back to me. “Well, guess I’m walking.”

I think for a moment. “You know, I could drive you.”

She frowns. “You always end up driving me places. Maybe I should get a car.”

“Whatever, just go grab your things and hurry up. You’ll be late for work otherwise.”

She nods and runs upstairs. I duck back into my room and change into a clean pair of jeans and a t-shirt. It only takes about five minutes for (Y/N) to come downstairs, ready to go.

“You aren’t much of a girly girl, are you?” I comment.

“Why do you say that?”

“Well, it only took you a few minutes to change, and this is the girliest I’ve ever seen you. Nice outfit, by the way.”

She blushes slightly. She’s wearing a white blouse, light green jeans, and ankle boots. It really does look nice. “Th-thanks.” She shifts nervously in her seat. “So, uh... there really is a world in our dreams? And different kinds of people? Do they ever come here?”

“Well, yeah. They mostly stay there, though. They can’t affect this side too much, since they aren’t entirely real.”

“Huh. So why do those Dream Eaters want people to join them?”

“So they can affect this world. If we were to join them, we would still exist on this side as long as our physical bodies lasted. That applies to Dream Weavers as well, but they don’t try to make you join them.”

“How do they make you join them?”

I don’t answer for a minute. I don’t really want to answer. But I can’t stay silent forever. “Well... they don’t make you, exactly. You have to decide to join them.”

She looks at me, shocked. “What? Why would anyone do that?”

“It’s... complicated. But they have ways.”
