Your POV
You feel yourself starting to wake up. After a couple attempts to go back to sleep, you groan and open your eyes. Then you blink, close them again, and check again to make sure you weren’t seeing things. No, still there.
You’re floating in the middle of a mostly clear bubble. Here and there, spots of color flick across its surface. Outside the bubble, you can’t see anything. It’s like you’re floating in an endless expanse, one direction the expanse colored red, the other blue.
“Well, this is weird,” you murmur. “Must be a dream.” You feel inexplicably angry at something. Why are your dreams so strange lately? You frown. “Why am I angry over something like that?” you ask yourself, chuckling slightly.
You look around, hoping to see something new. You sigh, beginning to feel bored. “Can I go home now?” you say to the nothingness. There’s no response, of course, but the blue side seems to get brighter for a moment. Then you feel your consciousness fading away.
You open her eyes, noticing you’re still on Cry’s couch. You must have fallen asleep watching that movie. You sit up, trying to blink the world into focus. After a minute of failed attempts, you shrug and stand to look for Cry.
He’s not in the kitchen – thank god – so he must be in his room. You poke your head through the doorway, planning to say good morning, then stop. You’d expected to see Cry in there, doing whatever. You hadn’t expected two of him, almost exactly the same. The only difference you can see is that the one on the left is wearing a blue hoodie, and the one on the right is wearing green.
After a minute of standing there silently, the blue one looks up from the object they were discussing and sees you. “Cry, you have a visitor,” he says in an almost mechanical voice. The mouth line on his mask waves around when he speaks, like a sound detector.
“(Y/N)? How did you get here?” Cry looks at you, confused.
You look at him blankly. “I fell asleep here, right? Who’s that?”
“Call me Virus,” he says. “It’s what I go by.”
You nod. “So... are you and Cry related?”
“No, he just looks like me. Let’s skip the awkward stuff. (Y/N), welcome to the dream realm. You’re currently asleep.”
You look at him. “I what?”
“Okay, time for a long explanation,” Virus says. “The dream realm is like a separate world, one you can only access while asleep. Not many people can come here, though. I don’t really know what decides whether or not you can get in.”
“Right.” You decide to accept that for the moment. “So why do you two look exactly alike?”
“It’s hard to explain. I’m part of a race that only exists in the dream world. Most people call them Dream Weavers. That’s not really accurate, but it works.”
“And your appearance?”
“Getting to that. Dream Weavers find humans who can travel to the dream realm and befriend them.”
“More like stalk them,” Cry mutters. Virus shoves him off the bed.
“For some reason, our appearance becomes what they would be as a Dream Weaver. I guess because we aren’t entirely real, we’re easily shaped like something real.”
“Well, why do you follow the people who come here?” You take Cry’s spot on the bed. He nudges you to the side and sits next to you.
“Well, there’s another group known as Dream Eaters. Again, misleading name. They don’t always want to hurt you, though some do. Most of them want to recruit you as one of them. Trust me, you don’t want to know how that works.”
