Maddison

Aiden was right. The inside is even more spectacular than the exterior, although it's like they're from two different worlds. The outside is like a old mansion transformed into a school, with ivy, stonework, and antique touches. The inside however looks like it's just been built.

It's not modern, but the whole place is speckles and clean. Washed wooden floors are beneath my feet, and build up from them are warm brown walls with windows and immaculate trophy cases, filled with awards and prizes. There is a grand staircase with a polished banister leading up to another floor, which is like a ringed balcony looking down over the first floor. The roof holds huge glass skylights framed by dark, stained wood, allowing early morning sunlight and fresh to air filter through. Beside the door, there's a little stainless steel box sticking out of the wall with a key slot. I run my fingers along it's smooth surface. It looks so out of place.

"What's this?" I ask Aiden. He's put his bags at the base of the stairs and now walks over to me.

"You'll see later. First you have to meet Headmistress Stalling," he says, walking back over to my bag. As he hands it to me, I ask,

"Is she the principal?"

"Headmistress," he corrects. I follow Aiden through the halls of the school, which hold no kids at this hour in the morning. Finally, we reach a door with a sleek label that reads 'Office'. Upon entering, a clean smell hits me. The walls in here are wooden, and the air is fresh.

"Mr Redmond! You're back!" A beautiful woman, maybe in her 30's, walks over to Aiden and gives him a pat on the back. So that's his last name, Redmond. I didn't know that. The woman's brown hair is pulled back into a tight, neat swirl, and she wears a crisp blazer over a white button up blouse and black pencil skirt. After greeting Aiden, she turns to face me, taking a few steps closer in her short heels, which click on the ground.

"Hello, I'm Headmistress Stalling. I'm in charge of this Academy," she smiles. She's a few inches taller than me with a thin frame and slender shoulders. "I take it you're Maddison Winters?"

"I am, nice to meet you," I say, shaking her hand.

"Well, we are very pleased to have you here at Point Grey," she says, her voice confident.

"Thank you for having me," I say, looking into her dark blue eyes.

"Well, Madame Coarsen won't have much trouble with this one, won't she, Mr Redmond?" Headmistress Stalling turns to him.

"We'll see," he says, making Headmistress Stalling laugh. What are they talking about?

"Okay, I'll have Aiden show you to your room now. I think you'll much like Roxanne Herring. She's very easy to get along with. Although I wish you luck with Alexandra Riverton. She can be quite a handful, but she's very sweet," Headmistress Stalling winks at me and flashes me a white smile.

"Okay," I say uncertainly.

"Come on, mi hermosa," Aiden says to me.

"Awe, how sweet of you, Mr Redmond," Headmistress Stalling says. "Ms Coarsen has taught you well, I see," she finishes.

"Thank you," Aiden replies to her. What in the world is happening? I look between the two of them, confused. Headmistress Stalling notices my gaze and explains.

"Ms Coarsen is our manners teacher," she says.

"Oh, I see," I nod. How was Aiden calling me that polite though? What did he say?

"Alright, now off with you two! Mr T's class is going to have their first meeting today!" She exclaims. "Everyone's returning from their first assignments, and our new students start today," she waves her hands excitedly.
