Best Thing

Chapter 8

"Just face it you'll never beat me!"

"Whatever, do you know how many hours I've wasted on this game?"

"I'm so good not even Jeff Gordon could beat me!"

"This is Mario Kart not NASCAR, Jordan."

"Yeah, well he's still good at driving, so you'd just assume.."

"Nice try, but your still going to lose!" Ava and Jordan bickered back and forth.

   We are at Ava's birthday party that the guys put on for her. Caleb met us at our house and brought us to Alan's house for her party/ cover release. They had The George Twins come and play a few songs, and then we had a huge Mario tournament which has now resulted in a grudge match between Jordan and Ava, who seem to be getting along very well, if you know what I mean.

   I sat on a stool watching them swerve into each other when I felt a sting on my arm. I turned around, but couldn't see anybody or anything. Confused I turned around again,and again I felt a sting but on my back. I turned around quickly this time and just saw the top of someone's hair disappear behind the counter top.

   Pretending like I didn't see anything I turned around and quietly got off of my stool and sneaked around the corner. I peeked around and Caleb was crouching below the counter top with a rubber band, ready to shoot, on his fingertips. But that wasn't all I saw. Behind the couch sat Chad with a HUGE bag of rubber bands, and Joey and Tyler sitting under the kitchen table.

   Joey and Tyler first saw me, but they didn't shoot. They motioned for me to be quiet and to go over to them. Once I got there Joey handed me a bag of colorful rubber bands, and Tyler showed me with his hands that we were all three on a team, and we had to shoot the rest. I nodded and tiptoed over to the stairs.

   I sat on the bottom stair and flung my first rubber band right at chad's side. He squeaked in surprised, and turned to see who it was from but didn't see me. Unfortunately for Chad, Caleb heard his squeak and was already on his way to getting him.

   Suddenly a crash came from the kitchen and we all turned to see Alan, still as a statue, in mid trip by the table where Joey and Tyler were now seen also.

    Joey and Tyler jumped out from under the table, and started yelling "ATTACK!!" and flinging rubber bands at anyone they could see. I quickly joined in and hit Caleb right on the side.

   After our first "battle" we got into our teams and set up forts made from couch cushions and pillows. Ava and Jordan joined in and became a team, I was with Joey and Tyler, and Caleb, Alan, and Chad were together. We all figured our plans out and sent out to be the best rubber band armies there was.

    Eventually Joey got three people into a corner and made them give up the last of their runner bands. Tyler did also, but I was one that got pinned in a corner, by Caleb, who didn't give in. It didn't matter that I was his girlfriend he would not let me get out. I stood in the corner and started to "cry".

   "Okay Caleb please stop." I pouted but he wouldn't give in."Caleb I mean it your really hurting me now!" I said starting to cry.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry Leila!I didn't mean to hurt you that bad!" He was coming in to hug me, as badly as I would've liked a hug from him, instead, in one quick move of both my arms at once I grabbed his rubber bands and mine, and backed him into the corner.

   "Nicely played," He said, "I guess you got me." 

   "Come on now, you don't just give up that easy where is that last second trick up your sleeve?" I mocked what he always said during games.

    "What, you mean this?" and before I knew what was going on, he reached up his sleeve, pulled out another bag of rubber bands and grabbed both of mine.

He grabbed both my hands and yelled, "I got one!" like I was a fish he just caught from the river.

   I heard whooping from downstairs, and he walked me down the stairs.

"Nice job Caleb, but they won." Alan said nodding towards Tyler and Joey who had sacks of rubber bands clenched in their raised fists.

After the game we all sat down and watched Frozen. And afterwards we all felt like doing a remake of "Do you want to build a snowman?" It was literally the best time of my life.

   We posted the video on YouTube and immediately got comments underneath it.

"So funny guys!! this is perfff!"

"Who are the girls??"

"Wait does someone have a new gf?"

"CALEB IF THAT'S A GIRL FRIEND I MIGHT HAVE TO COME DOWN AND STEAL YOU!!!"

I looked at the guys who were all laughing hysterically, except for Caleb who was turning completely red.

"Just wait until they see the cover tonight!" Joey said beginning to look a bit worried.

"Don't worry guys most of the light bulbs are nice and will definitely be okay with you two being together." Ava said calmly.

"You are going to tell them tonight right Caleb?" I said. My heart was beating at a thousand miles an hour. I know it's a big deal for him to announce this to his fans, and I am just scared that some will be super mad at him or will say I'm not good enough for him.

"Of course I am!" he said. He looked at me and smiled, but my worry must have shown because his smile quickly faded. He grabbed my arms and said, "Leila don't you worry a thing about this. I don't care whether they like you or not. I do and I always will!" I hugged him with relief.

"And I don't care how much they say that I need to leave you, I never will." I said,

And then he said it, the words I've been waiting to hear for the longest time.

"I love you."
