The next day Caleb visited me at work. I work just down the street from the studio at a bookstore/Coffee shop. He visits me often but this time was different.
I heard the familiar chime of the door opening and looked up from where I was organizing books onto a shelf. He walked in with a big bouquet of flowers, I could see they where an assortment of brightly colored flowers and were my favorites.
He caught my eye and started walking towards me. He smiled when he reached me and handed me the flowers.
There was a note tied to them. It read "For the prettiest girl in the world!" I looked up at him and he had the cutest smile.
I gave him a hug, "You are the sweetest thing ever! What's the occasion?" I asked.
"It's our four month anniversary! How could you forget?" Caleb grinned mischievously.
"Oh of course it is! I didn't forget!" I said although I actually had. Caleb didn't mind that I didn't remember though because it was only four months. "I promise I'll make it up to you!" I said sheepishly, I was sort of ashamed I forgot.
"No no you don't need to!" Caleb reassured, "I just came in because I have a question for you. My sister's birthday is coming up and we are having a party at my parents and I was wondering if you'd be my date?" He smiled and looked at me with his eyebrows raised and his hands folded behind his back.
Even if there was some reason I couldn't go I wouldn't have been able to say it to that face. "Well, maybe just this once." I said. He picked me up and twirled me around.
"Yes! Okay I'll come over later and give you the details! Love you, bye!" He put me down and kissed me on the cheek, and skipped out the door. When he got outside he looked in the window and waved to me goodbye. I waved back and turned to my beautiful bouquet of flowers.
I stared at the flowers just now realizing what he said. Not only am I going to meet his sister, that he never stops talking about, but I'm meeting his parents as well as the rest of his family. I sat down overcome by this. It wasn't that I didn't want to meet his parents I just felt like it was a big step.
"Hey Leila, wow those are beautiful! Whose your secret admirer?" Sophia, my coworker, said in surprise.
"Oh it's Caleb my boyfriend. Hey can I ask you something?" I looked at her and she took a seat next to me on the floor.
"Sure, anything, bring it on." Sophia was always there to talk to. We weren't even close friends, but if either of us had an issue we always went to each other.
"So Caleb just invited me to his sisters party. And that's awesome and I'm super excited to meet her, but the thing is everyone is going to be there. His whole family. I just don't know if I'm ready."
"I know you're ready." she said with confidence. I was kind of taken by surprise by it too.
"You think so?" I asked.
"I know so. In every situation you're taking the bull by the horns. And you're good at it! This is nothing. I know they'll love you! I loved you the second you started working here. There's no way they'll have a problem against you." I almost started tearing up. This was exactly what I needed.
"Thank you Sophia, you just made this a lot easier. You're right I'm definitely ready for this." I got up and gave her a hug. "I guess we should get back to work huh?"
"Your welcome, Yeah, I suppose these books won't stack themselves." We laughed at that and went back to work.
