Everyone Dies Alone

“HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY!!” Jayy, Dahvie, Jeffree, Dad, and I yelled into the phone.

“THANKS!” Aunt Mee yelled back, laughing her ass off.  Today was February 6.  Meri’s birthday.  I believe she is twenty seven today, or somewhere around there.

“I made some cupcakes for you, but we eated them…” I said.

“B-b-but! I wanted my cupcakes! Dammit!” she said.

“Too bad! They were fucking delicious!” Jeffree yelled.

“Bitch,” Aunt Mee muttered.

“Love you, too, bestie! See you in a few months!” Dad yelled.

“See ya, assholes.  Love ya, Blakey.  Mwah!” she said.

“Bye!” I yelled, dragging out the word.

We hung up and I looked at Dad.

“What happens in a few months?” I ask.

“Right,” he says.  “Well, BVB is going to Warped, but they are taking Blade and he is using their spare bunk.  Pierce is also going, but they have an even number of guys and couldn’t get a bigger bunk.  Motionless is going, too, but same deal as PTV.  BOTDF isn’t going this year and neither is Jeffree, so.” He trailed off.

“What about Of Mice?” I ask.  I have never been on tour for Warped, but I have seen it whenever it comes to Arizona.

“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” he said, his tone quiet and sad.  “Blake, you…” he trailed off, looking at the ground.

“ARE GOING TO WARPED!” Dad yelled as he stood up.

“With who? I thought you said all the bands-“I started.

“Of Mice & Men.  They have five guys, they rented a six-bunk bus.  Austin offered,” he interrupted.

“No fucking way,” I muttered.  I have been on tour with BVB and, of course, BOTDF before, but that is it.

“WAY!!” Dahvie screamed.

“When?!” I almost yell.

“You are going to fly to Orange County and stay with Austin for a while before the kickoff party.  I’m sure Meri and the girls will steal you on some days to go shopping for tour,” Dad said.

“Awesome!” I yelled, jumping up.  Somehow, I managed to knock my beanie off, exposing my terrible roots.

“First, we fix that!” Jeffree yelled. I shrugged.

“Will you be okay, Dad? I have never been gone for almost four months before,” I asked.  The longest I have been on tour was two months.  I usually went for only part of it so I didn’t miss too much school.

“I’ll be fine, as long as you promise me-“he started.

“Don’t put restrictions on fun!” Jayy yelled.

“-Promise me that you will not drink, no drugs, and no-“

“Don’t even say it!” I screamed, covering my ears like a child.

“Promise!?” Dad asked, chuckling.

“Yes, sure, whatever!” I yelled.

“Hair!” Jeffree said.  He grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the house.

“Where are we going?” I ask as he unlocks the car.

“Hair.  Fix.  Now,” was all he said.

We got back home about an hour later.  Jeffree didn’t let me see what he was getting, again.  One of these days that decision was going to bite me in the ass.

“HI, Daddy.  Bye, Daddy,” was all I was able to say before Jeffree grabbed Jayy and I and pulled us into my huge bathroom.

I sat on the counter, obediently, as Jeffree and Jayy messed with my head.

(J’S POV)

A few hours after having random conversations with Dahvie, we heard Jayy and Jeffree scream.

“DONE!” they yelled as they walked downstairs.  They got down here and Blake walked down after them.

Her hair was dark purple with a single neon green streak in her bangs.

“I like it!” I said as Blake came downstairs.  She hid her pink tinted cheeks beneath her hair.

“Pull up the video chat and call up the bitches!” Jayy yelled.  I sent a text to everyone and we connected to the video chat on the TV.

Within fifteen minutes, we had all of Motionless, OM&M, PTV, BVB, War, Anthony, Snow, Meri, Staycie (who was on the other side of Arizona), Zaenne (who was in Florida), Savv, Blade, Melody, and Sammi.

“Who is ready for Warped!?” Blake yelled as soon as everyone was connected.

“He told you!?” Austin asked excitedly.

“Hell yeah!” she said back.

“You’re going to Warped, too?” Blade asked from his screen.

“Yup,” Blake replied, popping the ‘p’.  She started to blush, but tried to hide it with her hair.

“Holy shit! Your hair looks awesome!” Meri yelled.

“Thanks!” Blake said, still hiding.

We continued talking for a long time.  Zaenne eventually had to sign off because he had school the next day.  We all said our goodbyes and said ‘Happy Birthday’ to Meri, again.

Blake eventually went back upstairs and went to bed.  We all went our separate ways.

I sat on my bed and turned on my laptop.  I sat back and watched all the videos I had.  I had a bunch of little Blake.  After I watched all of the ones of Blake, I started watching the ones with Carter.

The first one was at one of Carter’s ultrasounds.  It was Chris and I that went with her.  During Carter’s pregnancy, Chris and I stayed at her apartment with her.  Chris volunteered to be a father figure for Blake, but Carter just shrugged whenever he mentioned it and said, “whatever happens, happens.”

“Congrats, Ms. Black.  It’s a girl,” the doctor said.  Carter had the biggest grin on her face.  It was bigger than I have ever seen.  The video ended there.  I clicked on the next one and watched it with a smile on my face.  This one was at War and Anthony’s wedding.  Carter was standing next to War, smiling at her younger brother.

The wedding was at the beach.  War was wearing a black suit with a blood red tie.  Anthony was wearing a black suit with a dark purple tie.  All the girls wore either purple or blood red, and all the guys wore black.  I sighed as the video ended.  Carter was smiling for her brother, but you could see the pain in her eyes.  She wished that Ashley was there to see her little brother get married to the man of his dreams.

I watched several other videos: Meri and Ashley’s wedding, Ashley’s memorial concert, Carter and Chris’s date at the Warped kickoff, War and Anthony introducing us to Snow, Andy showing us Blade, Jinxx and Carter playing with Melody when Carter was huge.

No one ever talked about Blake’s father anymore.  It was a touchy subject to all of us, but an even worse subject when talking to Chris.  He blamed himself, even now, for not being there to help Carter.

I sighed as I shut my laptop and turned over, falling into a peaceful sleep
