That night, Louise lay awake in her bed. She stared at the ceiling, her thoughts too full to sleep. Louise had barricaded herself in her room and called her cousin, Laura Barton, as soon as she got home. Lacking an older sister, Louise had always attached herself to her cousin. Laura was the older sister Louise had always wanted and the best friend she'd always needed.
Louise knew her father would not be thrilled when he got the phone bill, and that he would want to know why there was a two and a half hour conversation to the United States from her phone. But she'd desperately needed some sane advice. She knew better than to go to her mother with this sort of thing. If she'd done that, she might as well talk to her dad about it. Something told her that even mentioning to the ambassador that Bucky was in Wakanda would be a very bad idea. So she'd called her cousin.
Laura had been very understanding and had almost insisted that Louise give it a try. "That man got my husband thrown in Jail." Laura said, "You help him however you can. Because if he's worth that to Clint, I imagine he's worth a whole lot more." The conversation with Laura had really helped. But, at the same time, it had opened up a whole bunch of other questions. Would she be able to be any help at all? What would Bucky think when he heard the plan? Would he really want help? Or was cryo his idea of dealing with things? What if he didn't like her? It is very hard to be friends with someone you don't like. That was what Steve had said. He said that they were hoping Louise could be Bucky's friend.
She sighed and rolled over, staring out of her window. So much stress. She knew that Steve and T'Challa didn't mean to stress her out, and it was probably just her type-A personality, but she also knew that Steve really wanted this to work. He had suffered so much in his own way. He'd thought he'd lost his best friend, not once, but twice! Now they could be together again, and said best friend decided he couldn't be a member of a safe society? What must that be doing to the poor man!
Louiserolled over again, to stare at the ceiling. No,Louise thought, I can't think about that.I'll go crazy. There is only one person who I need to worry about, ok, two.Bucky and me. With that Thought, Louise was finally able to fall asleep.
